And I love it to bit's

But after getting back in from the dealer, well the 200 odd mile route I took back from Chester-Motorrad back to Warrington, I gave it a wipe down and noticed some really shoddy touching up work done on the engine casing.

What do you guys think?

I have mailed the pictures to the dealer as I am away out of the country at work now, I am amazed I never spotted it when picking it up, but I was a bit smitten.

Anyway, here's the Rallye (crappy iPhone pic).... for your enjoyment :beerjug:

And here is some of the shoddy touch up work, surely not done in the factory, any comment's or advice are greatfully received.

never seen that before.

Looks like some of it is chipped and has been touched up, some of the spot's look a little corroded.

Either way, I'm not happy with it, but the dealer is closed today so will see what they say tomorrow.

There's about 5 spot's like this around the motor, I guess I am about to see what BMW customer Service is like when compared to Triumph :)

The nicest looking GS for a while (imho). I would let the dealer know as soon as possible you will be taking it back to get that changed (not a better touch up) as that will only get worse -100% garunteed.

Lovely bike:thumb

Brand new????????......that is disgraceful.

I am sure you will be 'having a word' with them. :)

I was thinking that

That's bad. You're either looking at a new engine or a completely new bike.

I have a few long trips coming up soon and am purposly getting miles on it to run it in, got to give Chester Motorrad time to reply as Phil the salesman seems like a decent guy and was plagued by cock ups on Saturday.

It's not something that can just be touched in, some of them look like area's where the paint has been badly chipped then touched over again, but surely that would not get through QC in the factory.

I don't want to go pointing the finger at the dealer yet until I have chance to speak to them, but I did get straight on the phone when I got home on Saturday and Phil was busy and nobody called me back.

I will see how it pans out, but on a bike like this, that finish is unacceptable. My 12 year old ZX12R's motor was in better condition :)

Are you sure it is not something that just been spilt onto the bike. From the photo it almost looks like a shoddy attempt at applying security markings like Alphadots

that thought had crossed my mind

I had thought that because the bike is datatagged, but in the picture, the top one is a big chip in the powder coating that has touched in....... with a 6" fence panel brush :)

I always thought the idea of the datadots / alpha dot's was to apply them in a location OUT of sight, so scumbag's don't see them there.

At least one of the marks is a big feck off chip in the powdercoat, but some of the others could indeed be piss poor "dotting" if they are included with Datatag kits these days, and you may be right for some of them as there are about 5 area's on the engine, all in fecking plain sight that have these "defects"

If that's the case, someone in the workshop needs a new one tearing for sending out a customers bike like that.

Yep looks like you are the victim of the free datatag kit now provided by BMW ;)

That's why I always do my own :thumb

Just blowing up one of the images we find

Data Dots, there is still however a big chip in the powdercoating.

Bastards.......... I am on the phone first thing in the morning, that's beyond shoddy ...... and these guys have a good name after doing my homework around the forums :)

Short cut the hassle and reject it

Ride it back and hand them the keys, telling them that you're rejecting it, follow it up with 2 recorded delivery letters, one to the dealer principal and the other to BMW UK

Job done:thumb

Once it's covered in mud you will never notice it - it is a Rallye bike after all :D:D:D

Seriously though you have paid a lot of money for a new bike and it should be right and I would not want them taking out the engine etc to put it right etc

Not sure what I would do if I was you - maybe go for a proper touch up and a free twat suit or something like that ;)

Twat suit .... love it :-) I am Mr Trendy in my 8 year old Crowtree 1 piece leathers and manky superbike fleece in the colder months ........ Ewbi-gor-tex-kenobi I am not :)

For me the most annoying thing is that the dealer must have known for sure of this but never mentioned it relying on you the paying customer to accept it... As Schtum says its a new casing or engine. I hope they do the decent thing and get you a new bike as quick as possible as you dont want one a the end of summer:thumb2
