Thing is.. I've spent hours and hours looking at what I percieved I wanted...been on a few trips to view bikes in the 4-5k price range...and there were issues with them that would bug me...i'd narrowed it down to an FJR1300 or a K12S/R
For 5k youre looking at a 7 or 8 year old bike with 30,000 miles on it ...
I'd ridden a S10 when they first came out, but was seduced by the Triumph Explorer ( personal mistake)
Went out today and had another test ride...and it ticked the boxes...final decision maker was Lyn...she sat on the back of an FJR, then the S10.. And she said she preferred the S10
Was offered a new standard bike with luggage for more than I got this ZE with all the extras , it's only 11 months old
Lovely bikes the s10 will have my self one in a couple of years when I tire of the 1150 Gs

Good luck with the S10, great choice,colour too, was in Lincs this week trying mine out on the track at Cadwell, handled well for a big bike but I never got the chicane right all day.

At least he bought a quality bike, unlike your WC - didn't your first corrode before your eyes & then BMW replaced it with another - no doubt costing you a few extra shekels for extra gizmos
How you marvelled at buying a plain no frills GS - only for the paint to fall off

Speaking to a local Yamaha dealer who was saying that a major upgrade is due on the Super Ten in the next couple of years , he reckons it will be going down the path of a more road orientated GS style model and a more off road GSA style model with a bigger long range tank.
He is very clued up and knew what the final specs of the original Super Ten were going to be 18 months before it was released (ie spoked wheels, parallel wc twin, shaft drive , etc etc .
From what I have seen the finish, development and build quality of the super tenere is streets ahead of the current gsa lc that I own

Love a good debate Thanks for the comments chaps....Having had 3 Hexheads, 4 1150's, 2 1100's, 1 100PD, a Triumph Tiger 1050, a Triumph Explorer, a VAnVan and a GTR1400 since 2004 this will make a pleasant change

I had a Super Ten for 18 months - which is like dog years for me, as i have a tendency to chop and change. Got rid of it for a Multistrada (doh!) and now find myself on the GS.
Still have a soft spot for the big Yamaha. Might look at getting another soon.
Oh - and a Hilltop remap turned it into a real monster...

If you get another one take it to CJS, I spoke to Hilltop and he could not remove the restrictions - I think he can only alter the fuelling on the S10, CJS can also alter throttle maps and ignition. He managed to get a stack more power than the ECU Unleashed flash he over-wrote.
Also sorted out the really weak T-Mode, I now have an 1:1 throttle mapping in Sport which is fairly close to how Yamaha set Sport mode, and in effect behaves like a cable giving you exactly what you ask for.
T-Mode is now very linear and the same in each gear (as opposed to restricted a bit less in each gear as you go up the box) I find it is now useful being just a little bit more mellow than sport mode rather than making it feel like you have dropped onto one cylinder.
Really want to try a "Gen2" to see how it stacks up to a well sorted Gen1.
