Hope I am posting in the right area!! Sorry if not.

Hi Everyone,

I took my wife out today for a 110 mile ride on our 06 1200GS (new to us about a month ago) and I noticed 2 rather alarming things. a) My wife who is an excellent pillion could not sit comfortably in her BMW leathers as she slid back and forth on the seat which made for a very unrelaxing ride for me. I also had moved the seat to the lowest setting and previously it was reasonably comfortable. Aching all across the shoulders and numb backside as I type!:blast Also the fuel guage stays still for ever then drops like a stone. As we got off the bike there was one small bar left and the larger one at the bottom and we have only done 140 miles from filling up. Sensible speeds and I may be hefty(15 1/2 stone) but the wife is only 7 1/2. What sort of range should I expect and is there something wrong with my fuel guage? ps I had an akrapovic silencer fitted on purchase -may have been a bad idea?

any thoughts comments will be well received as this was the most uncomfortable bike ride I have ever undertaken. My 1100GS was never like this!:nenau

Fuel gauge on our old GSA was the very same! No matter how it was ridden, went onto 2 bars after 150miles! we set the trip at every journey knowing that it was good for 280 before we started to look for fuel.
Cant help with the seat though

Don't laugh, but has the seat been polished? Good ol' Mr Sheen (the household polish, not Bazzer) is sometimes used by dealers as it gives everything an 'as new' gleam - including plastic.

The fool guage on my 05 GS shows full, until 100miles. Then it drops like mad, until it hits reserve (when it starts counting down the miles to empty) at 160miles.

If ridden in an IAM style, I can get 200miles to a tank, but generally get 180miles to nearly empty.

As for you wifes slippy arse, try one of these CLICK HERE I used one on my ZZR, and it made my Mrs more limpet like.....

thanks for the advice

Cheers all, especially Miffs, I have just bought one from the link and hope it does the trick! I didn't even know the bike did count down so I have obviously not been near the end of the tank. Really love the bike but need to be comfy! I was ok on my own and with the seat on highest setting. Thought i might be getting vibes through my back end when I put the seat on low? We will see.

My 09 GSA is same. Came out of Wales today onto M4 saying 120 miles or so left, just before Swindon (c. 35 to 40 miles?) and was on 30 left with warning light glaring!! Combination I think of motorway speeds and that sudden drop to nothing that it does. Roding around Wales it looked like it was going to give 400 miles to the tank, got 300!! Still good though, just remember it's lying and fill up earlier and all fine:) Damn sight better than my MT01 which flashes warning between 90 and 120!!

Try with your seat setting low at back and high at front. Made a big difference to me. Also have a play around with your handlebar settings, that may help with the pain in the shoulder. If needed some risers may do the trick.

Thanks everyone, still trying to get the wife comfy! She doesn't slip around anymore (after fitting the seat cover) but feels she is too high compared to our old 1100GS - the yellow peril may have to go!!!:blast

If my wife was only seven and a half stone I`d just let her keep bumpin into me :toungincheek My 06 does 210 plus on a tank but only if you are patient enough to squeeze in every drop and shake the air out the tank to get it in.

First 100 - 130 doesn`t budge the needle then it drops to 2 above. At about 175-185 it`ll hit one then the warning comes on with 43 to go, every time.

Why not move the seat to high setting, it will change your shoulder angle and make your wife feel less exposed.

Sounds to me like a set of Sargent seats is what you need.

Keeps both me and Mrs SPL super comfy, and I've never heard any bad feedback from anyone else who's got them either.

Not cheap, but cheaper than changing the bike! :blast
