pink way round

hi me again,

i have just added a thread to the 5th route the severn to aberystwyth part of the wales pink way bit asking for ideas for routes i think that this will be a good idea to get peoples route ideas together, i noticed that some of the other parts of the challenge were doing it thought it would be a good thing to do and then slimbo our lead can finalise it for us

hope i am not stepping on toes here, just noticed that lots of people have ideas on a route so perhaps we should have a bit of a thread on it, so i started one

ok enough from me again :P

Me and Jas did part of the route yesterday from Bridgend to aberwystwyth.

Took us 6 hours with a 1 hour stop, very windy traffic not too bad, although cars occasionally suicidal. I thought I had a towbar at one stage going through west wales country lanes in the dark on our way home some idiot was so close that each time I slowed approaching a bend he almost had to overtake to stop hitting me. I pulled over and let him passed and was very scared, and some silly girl pulled out on Jason from being parked - he had already clocked her so took evasive measures as when I rode passed I beeped to make sure she knew I was there too and she was crying - hopefully she will learn to look over her shoulder before pulling out next time. Jas had a bit of a rough tummy so we needed to find toilets in a hurry and discovered at that time fo year all bogs between swansea and Aberaeron were closed

Took some piccies too, I think I have managed to attach them but not sure. I

Cheers pops

here is a more detailed version of the route that we took:
Nipped along the M4 from Bridgend and got off at Junction 48and then followed the coast road.

Down to Llanelli, along the coast to Burry Port and then up through Kidwelly to camarthen where we stopped for a coffee. From Camarthen we went down to st clears and then onto Pembroke dock where we crossed the Neyland toll bridge. 35p for bikes and it took us ages to get our gloves off get the money out and find the right change and then put our gloves back on

From there we nipped up to Haverford West and then back onto the coast road to Newgale - very very very windy. But as we climbed the hill on the other side of Newgale the view was spectacular.

Stopped for lunch in the Brains pub at Solva where we had a lovely Jacket spud with tuna and salad with some nice warm coffee.

Back onto the bikes we headed out to St Davids and Jas decided that the McDonalds we had yesterday had upset him so we started looking for loos. A warning to the wise don't get the squits in Feb in west wales - all public toilets are closed

We followed the coast to fishguard and onto Cardigan - Jas has a really funny look on his face now. we head up to Aberaeron where there is an open toilet. He took forever so I took some piccies. From there we headed out towards Aberwystwyth where we planned to find a hotel and spend the night - after hunting around we decided that £130 for B and B was a little steep so headed home.

Through the West wales lanes, in very cold conditions I found out that I had a tow bar on my bike and managed to tow an arsehole in a van. He was so close at one stage that when I slowed approaching a hairpin his front end overtook my back wheel and only just missed me. Very scary so pulled in to let the W****er pass and compose myself

We rode back to Camarthern where we stopped for another coffee and then took the main road back to the M4 and home to Bridgend.

I know that the planned route is longer because of the newport bit and we used motorway to get us to Llanelli but it does give us a little idea of what to expect.

Nice one Sharribee! :thumb Shame about your new best friend in the van though :ymca

Welldone Sharribee and Jason :thumb I simpathise with you about the pratt of a van driver  No Effin idea any of them. I had a near miss last wednesday. He was skidding out of controle on a blind corner and broke the mirror on my 1200 as I went passed in the opposit direction with him comming sidway towards me  . No time to brake just did a limbo round him. He must have missed my handle bars by only about 1 - 2 millimeaters Had to chase the F#>+er to stop him, and then he tryed to denigh it :nenau

Hay nough about me, great photos :thumb :thumb it's Good to be able to put faces to names.

Val.H.

Ps: Jason I hpoe the sitting down is ok for you now :D :D :D

I'm sure he will reply when he is able to get off the loo. Still there and let me tell you it's not pleasant

Breakdown of the route

Hello, Sharribee's be'atch here. Done most of the route Mikey posted it took us from 1130am to 530 when we arrived in Aberwystwyth. It was exciting from Kidwelly on the A roads, we need to look at the times because we will leaving at 4 and hitting rush hour at cardiff, barry. And it will be dark when we get to the lanes in west wales which may slow us up as well. We passed 10 fixed speed cameras on the route :dabone

Might suggest we leave a little flexability in the route to account for any problems that may crop up.

Will need 35p per bike to cross the Neyland Bridge.

Otherwise really good route and at that time of year there will be lots of places to stop for coffee, although later on in the route we may struggle as toilets and cafes shut up shop. (speaking from experience of the need to go)
Hopefully by the time september comes they will have finished tarmacing the coast road and the extra section on the Llanelli coast road.
Can I just suggest that we may want to pre-arrange somewhere to stay in the aberwystyth area so that those that have a long way to travel can rest up before riding again. :nenau :nenau :nenau

hi guys n gals , i have been v busy building at home the mo but have followed all on the site . the route is going to be reasonable the stumbling block is the newport to bridgend is bit , as its been said is gonna be rush hour .. the saving grace is everyone is coming out and were going in!!!

what i need is for us to decide if the outriders are to changeover at set points or if we just pick up folks along the way and get to route end en masse.

so it finishes as a large rideout!

kebab on the seafront anyone?? mmmmmmmmmm!

keep up the good ideas and its slowly coming together..

My first route took this into account by staying on the motorway to junc. 33, Cardiff west. By doing this we will miss all of Newport and most of Cardiff but only a small piece of coast.

I'll be staying all the way as Sharri is one of the "lady" riders, dunno what everybody else is doing. As far as I can see one of the biggest problems is going to be fuel at the far end. Still we can talk this over when we have a meet. :thumb

Keebab on the seafront sounds good, but Aberystwyth at midnight, get real

I'm with you on this one I'll not be wanting to ride home after this day is done. I might well be heading straight over to Leicestershire for the finish anyway.
Any suggestions for a sensible place to stay, like a travel lodge or other maybe better priced place that won't mind us turning up at 1am?

I'm also planning to be accompanying you guys all the way too. If your there at the start you might as well see it through to the finish.

If it's any use, there is a 24/7 Shell Site 100yds from the Railway Station in Aberystwyth that does DIY Hot food of sorts, and I'm sure that when numbers are known, B&B's can be found around the area, but not in Aber. mucho £££££££££££££ :nono :nono
there are enough of us GSers around to suss this out if you are interested, let me know which way you will be heading afterwards. :thumb

Cheers Rob, that's just what we needed to know

Hi Guys and Girls, I notice that the time for our route is now from 10 something - 3 something. Only mention it cause we were discussing it on Thursday night, it only gives us about 4 hours to do the route. When me and Pricey did the bit from Bridgend it tookus about 6 hours and the first part of that was on the M4.

this is getting ridiculous , how the feck can we do a reasonable route with interest and get to the handover point?? in the time scales allotted....

i think il go and square off me tyres ready for the boring roads..

Shouldn't we try a few trial runs? We don't have to ride the whole route, just recce a few bite-sized sections and then we can either accept or discard them as being impractical in the allocated time. :thumb

Hi guys, Did I say I had a good time meeting you all last thursday? :)

As it stands We have a start time of 10.44 and a finish time of 15.37. If the maths is right we have 4 hrs 53 mins.

This means we will need to find a route that Sharri and Archaeo can ride easily at a pace that suits them.
No disrespect to any one, but the girls are carrying the baton, we ride at their pace. Any fellas escorting them who can't keep up are free to drop off the back, as it won't matter if your a little late :thumb

This does however mean that Sharri and Acheao will need to ride a few routes or parts of till we find one that fits the time we have available.
Time is our ruler here, it's a shame, but we can take any route we like so long as it fits.
