I rode yesterday for approx 10 miles like this....

Had I not decided to pull in for fuel here rather than the next station 30 miles down the road, who knows if it had still been hanging there...

I insisted on not having keyless having had it on the MTS, if the key is in the ignition, you can see and know where it is.

Don't blame the keyless, blame the aftermarket luggage that needs a key...

Well that and a lack of a pre ride pat down wallet, phone, glasses and keys routine

Serves you right for being daft enough to use the key fob, instead of burying it in a distant pocket!

Easy to say but how to unlock/lock luggage without using the key. I've tried to buy a new key for my GSA from my BMW dealer but they say BMW won't supply a simple metal key to allow me to keep the keyless fob safely in my pocket

Anyone know where to get a key cut

Ha ha ....

I have a little (slightly OCD) routine where I have to check pockets, zips, before setting off. Almost like Rossi puling his leathers out of his bollocks I have to do it every time or i'm convinced that I'll loose something, drop my wallet, phone etc. If I don't do it I have to pull over and check .. :D

Search for 'keys in the post'. Take a pic of your key blade, email it to them, pay their invoice and voila! a key blade in the post which will unlock panniers sat nav mount etc. No chip so it won't start the bike.

i got a similar key cut for my VW by a local shoe repair/key cutter. no chip, so won't start the vehicle, but unlocks the doors. oddly, specialist locksmith that i use sometimes couldn't do it.

i'm assuming here that the WC keys are similar to previous hexhead keys physically.

I have my keyless key on a pass holder round my neck then in a top pocket. I have also managed to get get a couple of chipless keys cut which I use for the pannier locks etc. This way the key is never actually used.

And yes the engine still runs I know I borrowed a demo bike and the dealer didn't give me the key. I wondered what the amber warning light was. I went home with the bike turned of the engine and of course the bike wouldn't start. The dealer had to come 12 miles to rescue me.

He got the sale though.

The answer for me in future is to have the topbox key on a different set of keys. I got lucky, very lucky so hopefully it won't happen again.

I do the spectacles, wallet, key etc pat down at least 3 times before I set off.
