Has anyone used the place for a U lock under the front seat? Is it for a BMW product or will any U lock fit? Where do you put the lock part?

I had an old R65 LS and it had a hinged cable lock branded "Trelock" that fitted up the tubular frame in the under the middle of the petrol tank.

I sold the bike but kept the lock which fits into the U shaped slot running under the pillion seat on the 1200 GS.

I had a quick hunt on the Web and can't find this lock for sale anymore if anybody wants a photo of it I can take one.

First, sorry to have hijacked your second post on this exact subject with an enquiry on how to store the Rider’s Handbook. Let’s hope your third enquiry on this exact subject gets a response that you find acceptable.

Q: Who has used the space for a U-lock? (paraphrase)

A: The Gästarbeiter who wired up my example, who took up much of the space for the hasp on the nearside with his loom (it looks like a lot of wires for something that’s touted as having a single-wire system).

Q: Where do you put the locking bit? (paraphrase)

A: Dunno.

Yes Rupert, I'd appreciate a photo. Thanks

I took some photos last night and will post them tomorrow.

In the process I found out that the seat WILL NOT LOCK with the cable lock in sitting in the U. So Although the lock will fit it's not much use.

Rupert.

Sorry photos will have to wait 3 weeks as I am on leave and I could not get the darn things to download from the camera!

I have a U lock for my pushbike - I've discovered that it is the exact size to fit the space under the seat - the only place I found for the lock part, was to squash the toolkit up a little and it then sits at the back of the tool tray. Although it is quite a "sturdy" lock (might even have been a motorcycle lock in the first place? can't remember now where I got it), I'm going to be trying the dimensions against a "proper" motorcycle lock.

It's an Abus Granit Plus X 54 which you can get anywhere for about 60 quid. Anyone have one they could test fit under a 1200 seat?

Err, I think that is what is shown fitted under the seat in the images ?

Although the lock fits under the rear seat fine the front seat will not lock in place with the cable lock under the rear seat.

Glad to see the download's now complete!

Bad vB code and you can't link to an image (obviously) directly from your hard drive, you need to host it somewhere. Sorry. ;)

.

Deterrent?

Like the idea of having the lock with you always but are these U locks going to protect the pride and joy between your legs (so to speak?)
