Y piece fitted yesterday by dealer :spitfire :spitfire €€€€€€. But the bike (1150 adventure ) really feels faster. How much of this is a placebo effect ? Or does a Y piece really make a big difference ?

I noticed quite a bit of improvement in mid range revs when I fitted the Y-piece on my 1150, a few years ago. Better gas response and climbing in the revs quicker.

The Laser Pro d'Or muffler and matching chip didn't seem to make much of a difference to me. More noise, no noticeable performance improvement.

Cheers,
Michel

Y Piece

Best mod you can do in cheap performance stakes, definitely better mid range but don't go to trouble of fitting an aftermarket can (unless you like the noise - which I don't) as it makes very little difference. It's the ditching of the stifling cat that makes the bigest difference.

BTW was it a BM dealer? mine says you should run a remus can with remus y piece as some bikes with y & original can have suffered cracking mounting point on the subframe - I loosened all bolts on the exhaust from the manifold bolts back & tightened 'em all up a bit at a time to ensure I didn't put any undue stress on the whole system - did >20k miles on previous bike & 12k miles so far on this one with no problems - but I still keep an eye on the bracket.

Enjoy the best GS of 'em all Luke - the 1150GSA :thumb

Yes main bmw dealer. He never said anything about that but as it took them over one hour :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire to fit the y piece it cost an arm and a leg.
