A costal path runs from Holywood to Bangor, its a really nice walk.

Train to Helen's bay then walk along costal path to Bangor it's about six miles. Have a nice pub lunch i Bangor then get the train back to Belfast. Job done

Yes , they will let it on the train ... and you can do all the coastal "walk" on a bicycle (even though you may get frowned at a bit ......just ignore any notices ....and you'll have to carry it a hundred yards at one point !!)

talking of cortinas - the folk and transport museum aint too far from one of the stops - been before but they might have different stuff from last time

Grey Point fort at Helens's Bay is a naval gun emplacement which is open to the public for viewing, you'll kick yourself if you go to helens bay and miss it.

"Situated within Crawfordsburn Country Park, on the headland to the east stands a wartime relic, Grey Point Fort, a most interesting and unusual visitor attraction with great surrounding views.

This gun site was built to protect the mouth of the Belfast Lough from enemy invasion and now houses a little military museum. Centrepiece is a 12ft x six inch diameter naval gun which was installed in 1992. It is nearly a century old and was brought from Spike Island in Cork Harbour which also had a defensive fort. Grey Point's two guns were sold for scrap in 1957 after the disbanding of the coastal artillery.

In our local transport museum, and in The Science Museum London exactly 1 week later.
For what it's worth, the transport museum in Cultra is light years better than the Science Museum in London, which is dumbed down to a point of absolute horror.

Great call Peter & Si. I had completely forgotten about the extensive range of sea food at the Duck. Probably because I never make it past the leaf starter followed by sausages, steak or burger!

If you have a bicycle, and you make it to Bangor, you can continue along Ballyholme beach and follow a wee path to Groomsport, which is a nice wee spot also
