just got back from a good 100 miles and found a bag melted on my RH pipe... have spent 2 hours getting it off only to find the exhaust blue up as soon as I start!.. guess I'm through the chrome and down the the nickel... bugger... how thin is the plate on these things... so now have one blued up pipe and one nice chrome one!!... And it was mint before :( no idea where the bag came from :nenau

They are a fecker to get off! had a few melt onto mine over the years and it's a royal pain in the arse ...

Rub the other one down. I like the blued look.

Thats plan B... make the other side look the same :( ... think it was Netto... not even a quality bag :blast

Look on the bright side-at least you're not a dolphin !!

Don’t chrome exhausts blue up, always did in the ‘70s and ‘80s on Jap bikes. There used to be a specific product to remove the bluing.

I had the same issue on my bike, plastic bag melted on, the dealer had it cleaned off, looks like they used an abrasive as it’s not as shiny as the other side, guess it’s autosol time when I have time, unless anyone knows a better way.

Bluejob used to be the best on the HD side... as said... I quite like the blue myself also... just been buffing the other side... see if this will blue up also...

I think they blue when they lose the chrome... on the plating they do copper, nickel, chrome.. the top layer (chrome) is actualy see through and makes the nickel layer shine... when it blues or you polish them too much, you remove the chrome or make it thin, then I guess its the nickel that blues up?...

Interesting as both mine are blued and have not been polished, if fact I think the chrome around the cat is going blue as well.

Not sure then.. maybe the chrom blues as well... But when I'd polished mine, I started the bike and whilst I put my gloves on, the thing had tarnished up... so think on mine I'm through the chrome for sure ;)

Must be someone witha nice pair (OOw er).. removed to fit a de-cat system... just sat around the loft??? :)

Not sure either, makes me wonder if I should leave my slightly less shiny one alone.

Curiosity got the better of me, so popped into the garage and both headers on my TE are blued about the same amount. Interestingly where the material is thicker, i.e. the clamps which are welded on, there is no bluing at all and where the cat is, I assume the metal is thinner there, there are signs of bluing. Personally I’m not too concerned, but I’ll compare to my mates bikes who all have chrome headers when I next meet up with them.
