I got knocked off my 1150GS this morning whilst I was stationary at the traffic lights by a bloke whose "foot slipped on the clutch"!!!

Anyway, the top box lid has a small crack in the side - about 1cm long - and I wondered if anyone knew whether this could be welded? It's not big enough to warrant a new lid. Somewhere in Surrey would be preferable!

Also, while I'm on, anyone got a spare Right hand side cylinder head protector they don't need and want to sell? Mine's now badly scratched......

thanks MIKE

why doesn't mr slippery foot get the bill for new parts?

Please don't say you let him go without getting his details............

Or checking the bike over and pointing out the damage to him at the time.............

If you get at it with some wet and dry paper your can make it look like new - then give it a quick gloss over with some spray lacquer they come back to life. Check the inside for cracks because these are designed to absorb impact so may well have crumpled inside - next time they won't work.

....and please tell us you got the plonker's number and his insurance details....

Of course I got his details and we went through the damage at the time. The problem was that he was driving a foreign registered car\(I have the number) and started on about me breaking the law by filtering to the front of the traffic lights. I pointed out to him that as I was stationary and in front of him when his foot slipped off the clutch, this was a somewhat tenuous argument.

So yes, I will be ringing him with the cost (at the moment £75 for a new lid, £33 for a cylinder guard), but I have to say that I won't be holding my breath waiting for his cheque to arrive.

That's why I'm trying to find a cheaper solution.....
