Please respond if you've NOT had a 1200GS/GSA fuel pump controller failure

Someone phone that bloke on Watchdog (BBC).
They love these type of things.

They had an issue with a car's bonnet catch. I think it was Renault (not sure).
Company denied any design fault, but replaced them all ..... if I remember right.

1st bike (totalled in a crash 2.5 years ago):
2004 GS
32'000km
all weather, all year round with pauses up to 2 months in winter

2nd bike:
2007 GS
25'000km
all weather, all year round

No failures yet but carry spares just in case.. 05 from new used all year round
but does live in a garage. Now if you ask about G/B oil seals and FD's thats a different story:D:augie

04 1200GS - 18000mls the controller was probably the only thing that didnt fail
05 1200GS - 12000mls no failure
061200GSA - 27,000mls no failure (though it was changed by the dealer to try and fix another niggle)

All this seems a bit odd, seeing as BWM have issued a recall on these parts anyway at least on some bikes:nenau

1200 GSA fuel pump

Sept 07 1200GSA
6000 miles
Just by chance it has been used in mostly dry conditions except one weekend in Wales when the rain was stair rods.
Was stored for a long period during winter to avoid salt.

Seeing as you started the thread and posed the questions, what sort of analysis are you planning to do with these posts now you have 89 positive responses?

(At least I counted them for you. :thumb2 )

Do you think the response is representative? :nenau

And do you think the statistics you've gained on weather conditions or length of bike storage are in any way meaningful?

Tim

"...what sort of analysis are you planning to do with these posts now you have 89 positive responses?..." Why bother! It is interesting to read but any analysis will be flawed for countless reasons. All the statistics will have been fed to BMW from the dealers - and you can be quite sure that their analysis would be quiite different from 'ours.'
It is the way in which these flaws on new models are handled by the individual dealers and the time that it takes to sort them out that is really important. Whatever complaints I have had in 30 years of BM's I have always felt that I have had fair treatment from the dealers I have used and major problems have been avoided.

Which is pretty much what I said at the start.

I dont believe camel-landy said he was doing anything with the info Tim.

He said his thread had been started as a balance to yours which is being modded by you to disallow any response other than failures.

People are naturally more vocal when things go wrong....
