Please respond if you've NOT had a 1200GS/GSA fuel pump controller failure

2004 GS - No fuel problems
33,000 miles
Stored when the salt goes down and left on optimate. Comes back out after it rains in Feb-ish. Otherwise, used in all weathers and garaged.

I note some have said they carry a spare in case. How can this be replaced? Is it straight forward or not?
