Plumbing a 2610

I just bought (the now superceded) 2610 and a starcom communications system, but have a couple of problems with fitting.

1. The 2610 doesn't seem to have a standard audio-out socket - I was expecting a din socket. Presumably this is a cynical ploy by Garmin to get more of my money by making me buy a proprietary lead, but which one.

2. The starcom instructions says "when using optional audio equipment incluing GPS which is powered from the 12V bike supply or is grounded to the bike, an isolated cable must be used. Do not use the standard music cable supplied. Please contact your dealer for the correct cable required" - Eh?

The garmin power lead for the 2610 should have a 3.5mm jack plug socket running off it for audio.

You need the combined garmin power/audio lead - 010-10495-02 - about £25 from GPS Warehouse - they were in stock yesterday.

As steve say's you need the combined power/mono audio lead and presumably starcom sell a ground loop isolator which eliminates/suppresses the interference from the bike.
Just installed my 2610 and gone through the same probs. If you're starcom is bike powered the interference without the audio isolator is horrendous.
If you've not mounted the unit yet garmin sell a complete kit including cradle and lead for around £30.

Yes Absolutely right. I have just talked to StarCom and you need both a suppressed lead from them CAB35A £25 and also the power/audio cable from Garmin £24.08. So basically need to throanother 50 quid at it. I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment. Can you tell me does the Garmin £30 cradle Part No 010-10495-00 bolt straight on to a GS? Presumably on the handle bar cross bar?

Unfortunately not - You will need either a selection of RAM parts (U - Bolt/arm/round base) or a Migsel mount. Have a look at http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/ for more information.

Looks good. Thanks for this. Just when you think you've sussed it, you find you have to throw a load more dosh at it. I guess its worth it though! Cheers.

If you haven't bought the Garmin cradle yet, have a look at the RAM version as well. The Garmin one is OK and allows the GPS to be locked into the cradle - However it wont stop theft as all the thief has to do is undo the RAM arm and walk away with the whole lot! Also if you've hard wired the power lead into the ignition or similar, you will need to undo the security screw every time you want to remove the GPS as the power lead is kept captive by the moulding of the cradle, wheras the RAM part allows you to simply disconnect the lead and slide the GPS out of the cradle.

Does the RAM version fit the Motorrad Concepts mount ?
I have the Garmin cradle at the moment but fiddling with the screw each time is a right pain.
