When I first joined No 3 RCS the surveillance bike was a BMW R45
On long distance stuff the last car had to come off at each motorway exit until I came in to radio range and let me know if we were still motorway bound or the convoy had come off

A new R100CS comes, there's only one bike in the team, and I'm it. I suggested to the boss that before the bike was to be used in earnest I should get some miles in on it, run it in properly ... I was commended on my forethought and good planning

I was based at Woodhouse near Sheffield ... I sent the boss a postcard from...

Think the funniest comment by a Rat that I heard was a speeding biker asking "am I in big trouble" and the bike cop saying "with chicken strips as big as yours, I would say so".

How far away from base can you get on a night shift

Not in civplod but while in military plod on a night shift guard duty managed to get from St Athan in wales in a fully spammed up RAF sherpa minibus and send a post card to the rest of my shift from central London...............and get back again before 0700

Other sillies include watching one bright spark driving the Marina TC down a local boat ramp 'just because' on nights thinking he could reverse out...er no

They don't float and the blue lights look like a UFO has landed and sunk. That took some explaining..

I remember one colleague parking a Section car down on the foreshore at Stonebench, near Gloucester, to warn people to get clear of the Severn bore, expected any moment, only to see a 6' wave completely cover said car. Then he twigged why we Traffpols had ridden our bikes up onto the embankment of the river defences
