Ponferrada Plaza Hotel is a short walk into the city centre and1.3km walk to the Ponferrada Templar Castle. Nice hotel with cafe/bar open all day, very popular with the Police Nacional. Restaurant served a reasonable 3 course dinner including wine for 16 euros! Breakfast also good value.

Across the road is a retail park with a supermercado & McD. Petrol next door.

They have an underground garage but this was not available due to some sort of renovations going on. I parked by reception without bother. 5 Norwegians parked KTM/Husky off road bikes outside without any locks. All there the following morning.

Ponferrada itself seemed a nice place with a few small squares with a cafe culture. The Templar Castle is worth a visit, especially on a Wednesday when it is open for free, saving a monumental €6,50

The city is surrounded by great roads.

I can recommend Hotel El Castillo, which is about 100 yards from the castle.
Simple but decent sized rooms and parking outside on the road or at the rear in a car park.

. Hotel Ponferrada Plaza.
An easy 190 mile day from Santander through Potes and the Picos and we arrived at the hotel around 16:00 very hot! Very nice rooms and helpful staff. Secure underground parking cost us 9 Euros for all 4 bikes. A quick shower and into the bar for a cold one (or two) staff were super friendly. They serve food from 20:30 which was not only excellent but great value for money. Breakfast was great with a selection of hot and cold items. Cost was around £60 for a Double room inc. Breakfast.

good to hear this place is still a decent stopover on the way to Portugal
