Spot on! Take a look at your car's brake caliper's or discs, or any part underneath - salt will kill anything!
My Last bike was a Honda, and it suffered just the same as the GS, if not looked after!

Just looked at the front callipers of my 04 SEAT and the bolts are less rusty than on my bike and the car never gets washed after every trip.
Just finished conversation with BMW customer services and the result is " the bike hasn't been looked after adequately" and "as it's not a component that's corroded, but general corrosion" stick it where the sun don't shine.
