Probally a stupid question but can I wire the cable supplied with Garm 500 directly (via a fuse) into the 12 volt supply of a bike or car ( canbus problems understood). I ask this odd question as the cable with bared ends has a note stuck to it saying replace the line fuse with a 2 amp 240V fuse. As the specifications of the 500 refer to 12/24V I presume it is OK wire the Sat nav directly in.

Can anyone point me in the right way to set up a route using a series of waypoints of my choosing rather than the 500 working out the quickest way?
Do I do this in conjunction with the computer.

Sorry to appear stupid, but the manual does not make it clear and many people say that it is easier than Tomtom. I have a TT 550 in the car and get on fine with it! Many thanks

Yes

With your route tool in mapsource click on the road at some point you wish to travel on which adds via points. If a segment does not look right for you click the "undo" control and continue building the route as where you want it to go. It will become obvious to you after a bit of trial and error

It's best, IMHO, to wire it to a switched feed rather than to a permanent live. The Zumo has a battery so it can still be used in the mount even when the ignition is switched off and you might prevent electrolytic corrosion on the mount contacts. Not too sure about Beemers but the brake light switch is a good place to tap into a switched feed on most Japanese bikes.

If its a GS use the little socket BMW supply for a satnav which is hidden in the loom to the left of the headstock. Get a plug from a dealer (about £8.00) or just solder your satnav cable to it.

It can be hard to find but feel down the cable loom looking for a lump about the size of USB plug. As this socket is ignition controlled its ideal for the job.

Many thanks for your replies and help! Sorry that I did not get back until today by the UKGS`er site was off line late last night.
I am presuming that this socket/connection nearto the head stock is in the GS version as well as the GSA? I have a 07 1200GS.
