Hi all,
Ive been having some problems with my BMW heated waistcoat plugged into the power socket, after a short while the socket powers down and vest goes cold. Has anybody else had this problem?

Cheers
Lyndon

The power socket will 'trip out' if too much current is drawn by the accessory that you plug into it.

You'd think that a BMW heated vest would be compatible, but I also had this problem two bikes ago.......(it's a loooooong story.......!!)

It was solved by the supplying dealer with a software update via the GT1 computer gadget they all have in the workshop.

Cheers

Thanks Dutch, ive had this prob for a while so i think youre right there is a prob but now its blowing a fuse on the fazer i have so i think the vest is also faulty.

Cheers

Check the plug at the bike end of the vest's cable.

On mine, the pointy connector at the end of the plug (as opposed to the two side connectors) gets pushed into the plug's housing. This means that the connector doesn't connect with the terminal inside the bike's socket, or it connects briefly and as you ride around it wiggles a bit and the connection is lost.

Basically the cable and plug are both crap.

Yes, I totally agree with Tobers. I also had to return my BMW vest after it got too hot in one area and started to burn the fabric. Probably a coincidence, but on the desk in the dealership was another jacket with exactly the same fault. I exchanged it for a BMW airvantage vest which works, but isn't as toasty.

You want a Stormrider from e-x-o (Ride offer) :D
Brill but it trips the socket too!

Upgrade to a Gerbing heated jacket!

Better quality, comes with a fused battery lead.

Gerbing heated gloves plug into existing jacket lead in cuffs (they have thought of everything!)
No worries, no software updates  , no tripping the socket, lots more toasty riding time :D ;)

Have to agree - bought a jacket at the NEC & had a nice toastie ride on Sunday when the temp never got over about 4 c. :thumb

I bought the bmw heated waistcoat a few weeks ago, ready for an 800mile round trip to the isle of Skye. What a waste of money !
1) the thing would overload the powersocket rendering it useless and also:
2) the connection cable is an awful design, the cable has to be connected to the waistcoat well inside the garment, there is no length of cable hanging from the waistcoat, so you have to connect everything up before you zip up all your gear, and when you get that far;
3) the cable drops off inside the jacket, it is so loose that the slightest movement disconects it. :(
Solution:
bought an exo2 stormrider vest with handlebar mounted on/off/ 9 position digital temperature thingy.
result; the dogs, it works as you would hope and more.
took my time fitting the switch and harness straight off the battery. fitted the cockpit power socket extention for my quest at same time and routed all the cables together and it worked out neat and tidy. :)

Is the socket clean? ie no green corrosion on the brass bits. This can cause the fuse to blow when a plug is inserted

Mine also suffered from corrosion whilst touring in Ireland last summer, resulting in my Autocom dying on me. Easily replaced under warranty at the dealers and now packed with silicon grease to prevent future corrosion.

All sorted, bmw exchanged my heated waistcoat now all nice and toasty again. Common prob by all accounts with the 4 pin plug the end that puugs in to the jacket. :thumb
