I have a 04 and off across the channel this weekend :) So I have fitted a tomtom rider V1 which has a Din/Hella plug to so I can plug it into the socket beside the tank, all good so far. Plug it in,switch ignition on and it comes alive, things are looking up, until every now again it loses the power supply  I have disconnected the wires and cleaned all the connections and all looks well. So will try it again tomorrow on the way to work to see if its cured it, if not any ideas chaps.

More than likely a cradle issue or software problem with the Tom Tom. Contact pins between cradle and GPS unit can wear with all the vibration from the bike /road etc.

I had this problem with my TOMTOM for my car. Ended up getting a new one but quick fix is to take a rubber foot and wedge it into the bracket to put pressure on the pins. I haven't seen a Rider so I don't know what it looks like. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies, it is a new cradle with new wiring, so will be disappointed if its that, but happy its not the bike.

Alas, while it might be the Tom Tom cradle, I have an 05 bike that exhibited similar problems with an Autocom unit. It functioned fine on my husband's Triumph Tiger, but it would always cut out after a few minutes when fitted on mine. Not only that, but all power to both sockets would be cut off!

I must have had it to four different dealers in the hopes of finding a solution, with progressively more and more bizarre explanations as to why this was happening. On each occasion the software was updated and the Autocom unit reinstalled using a different part of the wiring loom. Nothing worked and noone came up with a plausible explanation of why it was happening. In the end, Vines wired the Autocom directly into the battery, thereby bypassing the CANBUS system. Hey presto!

It goes without saying that I'm not a big fan of BMW electrics.
