Is the dashboard aux socket OK for powering an Airman pump or is there a canbus restriction?

It draws about 10a so the canbus will trip. Best option is probably fitting a second accessory socket straight to the battery with a fuse inline.

trips after about 2 seconds, need to make a direct connection to the battery.

This. Also means you can use a bog standard battery charger.

My Airman came with a connector for the battery which I fitted and just tuck out of site and protected behind the panel, just fish it out when needed.
