Powering My Ipod Question....

On my RT (I know, this is a GS site, but I seem to get the best responses on here!!!) I have my Ipod fitted into the lockable storage area on the right of the fairing. It wires straight to my Autocom from there.

I am looking at buying one of those nice looking Belkin Sport Command thingies to allow me to change tracks etc, but what I could do with knowing is how I could run a power supply from the bike to the Ipod whilst it is in the storage area?

Anyone any ideas?

Is it a good idea or should I just use the battery life and charge it whenever its needed?

Would it mess the Ipod up if I did manage to connect it?

Have tried doing a search but nothing is springing up at me.....

Cheers

Sam

Not sure about the Belkin, but with my Griffen, you can't use the controller and the charger at the same time as the former occupies the socket.

ta, looking into it

does the griffin work ok? it's alot cheaper than the belkin..... how do you go on with 'wetness'?

It's fine. Big rubber buttons - you can just slip a little plastic bag over it, but actually I just have mine on a PDA mount attached with velcro - I made a little hood for the mount out of some bendy plastic (Milk "bottle" IIRC) so it's in the dry anyway.

Only downside is no display, but not a big deal to me as I tend to either just make a long playlist or pop it on shuffle.

cheers. which ipod do you use i with? reason I ask is that from the pics it looks like the adaptor thingy plugs into the top of my ipod classic, into the headphone slot leaving the power socket free at the bottom.

the prices of the griffins looks good though compared to the belkin

Got a 2G and a 3G. I think it works/they do one for all of them.

Google a company called Connects2 and look for connector CTABMIPOD007 to connect and CHARGE an iPod from a BMW car radio. Others have had success with this, although I have not tried it personally.

I've actually got the Belkin Sport Commander which works fine. I wanted it mainly for the remote control and the ability to skip songs and do the volume while riding. Thats all good, but as you said, it doesn't leave any room to charge and use the remote since it all connects to the one socket on the ipod. The actual remote attaches with a velcro pad to anything velcro really and apparently it is fairly 'water resistant' (though haven't tested that yet). The only thing thats not so good is that sometimes it seems to not get my 'command' and it can also lag a bit. But usually it works fine.

my set up...

I have an 5th Generation iPod Video 30GB which I use with a Griffin AirClick.
It works brilliantly. Generally I have the iPod in an inside pocket and use Sony in-the-ear-buds. I charge the iPod of the bike with the Nippy Norman cigarette 12v socket. A charge will do most of a days riding so don't need to power the iPod and have the AirClick plugged in simultaneously.
