PR4 Trail - wobble 50mph +

I think that's really sh*t service. There must be an issue with the tyre whether they admit it or not. Will think hard about who I use next time.

Never had an issue with the MPR3's & 4's fitted to my Multistrada and the 4's now fitted to my GS TE. At Autobahn speeds with top box and only 200 miles on them, no issues at all.

Changing tyres on a gs is so easy, I get mine for £160 or thereabouts from discount merchants, the tools to do so are cheap also. Within a couple of changes they have paid for themselves. If you do a lot of mileage its worth it.

Saves time too and another skill to learn. Saying that you need a professional to do this on modern tyres and wheels is totally untrue.

What tools do you have? I'm seriously thinking of going down the DIY route.

All you need are some good levers, rim protectors can be just cut up old plastic oil cans, bead breaker ( £40 at the most ). You'll need supplies like wheel weights, and proper tyre lubricant/ seal ( don't use fairy liquid! ) maybe a spare set of hands initially. Loads of info on the net on the best way- you can even use the zip tie method but it's quite lengthy. A balancer too ( £25). It's easy.

Thanks, now ordered the lot except wheel weights. Just weighing up whether powder coated ones are worth it :)

so frustrating. spent over 4 hours on Saturday back up to FWR from Guildford. I'll spare the gory details, but all i got out of it was my old front tyre put back on. So, now i have one new rear PR4 mismatched to my old Anakee 3 front tyre for £240.....

They are sending the front back to Michelin, then if its faulty i will finally get a new front. If the tyre is fine who knows! Which ever way i went (new anakee 3 for the rear, keep the old front tyre OR new pr4 for the front and keep the new rear pr4) i was going to have to pay AGAIN... then...hopefully.... get my money back at a later date. I don't like it one bit, but hey ho. I didn't want to spend any more money, so the old tyre is back on the front. OH and no wobble.....

As said by another - this is really sh*t service. This experience ought to educate you never to spend a penny with that car company. I would personally name and shame the company far and wide and make a formal complaint to the head office (if its a chain) and to Michelin - as that company ought not to be representing their products.

As for the PR4s, I had them on my 2009 GSA and without a question they were the best handling tyre I have ever ridden on. The grip was phenomenal around the Picos Mountains of Northern Spain. You obviously had a bad tyre or it was badly fitted. I hope you get some compensation from this sh*t company. I am sure the Michelin Technical Department here in the UK will be interested to hear of your experience.

Good luck getting a positive response from Michelin.

I had 3 tyres twist there carcass, over a period of time, on my vw t5 van.

This became a known fault but Michelin wouldn't acknowledge there was an issue.

I still believe Michelin are a good product and use PR4 on my GS.

My vans now run Pirelli tyres.

Have you changed tyres on an LC GS? I have watched the motorcycle tyre fitter I use change the rear tyre twice on mine using professional equipment and he has struggled with the stiff side walls! I wouldn't want to do it as a DIY job although it would be handy!

GS tyre changes aren't the problem the black spoked rims on the gsa lc are the pain, very easily marked and because of the unusual profile of the rim edge they will not fit a number of tyre changing machines .

Two local tyre fitters will not touch them

What's the point? Seems like far too much hassle to me.

I've got the GS cast wheels so hoping it's straight forward and I can just order tyres mail order. Just realised I'm going to need some kind of spacer/adaptor for the rear wheel though.

I have a lc gsa and have always changed the tyres myself. Very easy. The point is, why pay someone else to do it when, by the time you have taken the wheels and tyres to a fitter, waited and then returned to your garage, I would have already fitted a set. To be honest it's quite therapeutic too.

I don't think your chap knows what he's doing. It's easy.

As per Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as subsequently amended) you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund. Your choice. Simples. No fannying about.

So, demand your refund and start again somewhere else.

Thanks for all your comments guys. Called up today ( 4 weeks to the day since getting new tyres) and 'tyres still waiting to be picked up by michelin'........... i take that as.... oh shit... i forgot about it...

Anyway, they are putting a new front on next week and finally its at no further cost to me. so hopefully the bike will have two matching tyres and no wobbles!
