Problem with my 1100GS

Right
I’ll do that tomorrow and get back to you
If’s definitely a new one it’s got non standard Allen keys fastening it
Just remember you are looking for around 0.3 to 0.5 on your first twiddle and then gently and carefully move very very small increments to aim for about 0.38 as a finish value also flip your throttle a few times to let it all seat, you may not get it perfect it's just getting it as close as you can

and for Bolt "Torque"

twist in your allen key "just" until you need to apply any force at all and then a max of 45 degrees (or an 1/8th of a turn) more

Go easy and its just "nip them" not rip them right out !!

Right
I put a wire in furthest right wire
Connected the red from the meter to it
Earthed the black meter wire
And went the the whole range of the meter
Got no readouts
Dont know what I’m doing wrong

Ignition ON?

Kill switch to run?

on centrestand and sidestand up ?

20 Volt DC is the usual range I work on

Check all the above and try tomorrow
Took plugs out black and wet

Use a good ground like battery Negative

Test the meter reading across a battery If its miles out e.g. like one I had read all 12 V batteries at 16 volts Bin it and go buy a cheap brand new digital mutimeter from A local hardware store or autoparts place

Right before I start
Thanks for your patience
Set up multimeter it was reading 1.10
I’ve set it to 0.38
Slapped throttle open and closed locked it up and it’s still 0.38
Fires straight up on choke as before but it doesn’t seem as fumey
Only thing now when choke is off it won’t tick over
It tries but it’s too low
So what’s the next step
Cheers martin

It's not a choke, it's a fast idle. In cold weather you need to keep it on until the engine has some warmth in it. If, when warmed a bit, it still won't run without the fast idle lever on you need to look elsewhere. Could be an air leak, could be that the air bypass screws need adjusting now you've altered the mixture by adjusting the TPS correctly.

Something strange has happened
Before it started fine ran fine but very fumet and the odd backfire on overrun
Now I’ve set the TPs it won’t idle and if I hold throttle at 2500 3000 rpm and hold it there it starts misfiring and backfiring

Not until it gets some heat in it !

Its not a choke

When the Injected machines came out the cold start procedure was based on ambient temp and engine temp

Basically the colder it is then the more fuel it sends in So your "Choke" lever is actually an OPEN lever It cracks teh throttle enough to allow more oxygen in to burn the fuel

As the engine gets warmer the ECU cuts back on Fuel

Definitely no Lamda plug on yours??

You have knocked a throttle cable out of its holder Usually the right hand side one

Anyone got the picture handy ????

1150 throttle cables.jpg Edit FOUND it!!

Checked cables all in situ
Any chance you set the tps with your "choke" as you call it "on" a little ??

Is your voltmeter new or Old one? Low battery ? What sort of calibration Checks did you do?

Cheers for reply
Right whatever it is it’s something I’ve done
It was fine before but rich and a backfire when you shut off
I’m going to reset the TPs again when I earthed the tester I earthed it on the throttle body
So I’ll earth it on the battery this time
The only other thing I touched was to check the brass screws to see where they are I put them back where they were one was three quarters of a turn and the other was one and a quarter turns

Hi Reeevo
You cant earth via the throttle body, as their rubber mounted.
Re do the measurement of the TPS but with a proper earth.
Get this set, then come back to us

You really need balancer gauges of some type there is a cheap way to do it with a length of clear tubing and ATF BUT !!!! remember to switch off before removing one of the two tubes! D A M H I K!!!

Yup Need a good earth as I said Up above

On the back of the throttle bodies there are stops for the throttle butterflies Are your Cable quadrants touching the stops on both sides? (NEVER touch the small screws! they are for Factory setting of butterflies)

If not give them all a jiggle and wiggle and see if they drop into place somewhere???

Yours probably has a cable from the Twist grip to the left side and then a crossover cable to the right side ??? You need the slightest of free play on the crossover but the main twist grip you need about 2mm

There is the little brown wire with the ring terminal in below remember Neil ?

But I was warned by my foreman not to use it to set TPS

I’ll do it from battery terminal
Just getting my head round bmw boxers
I’ll get there
When I figure out how to upload pictures I’ll include a few
Cheers
