After having the tank off twice and ceaning the fuel sender contacts twice I still had the problem of the gauge mising one bar and behaving erratically, I use the local Morrisons supermarket almost exclusively, so I tried a different brand, Jet in the first instance and the gauge was immediately better, I tried it again and bingo no problem.
So I thought I'd prove the issue and went back to Morrisons, lo & behold the gauge read 1 bar low and was up & down like a bride's nightie, I went back to Jet and the problem dissappeared at the first fill, I have since tried Shell, BP & Esso and all are OK.
I contacted Morrisons who were no help at all, clearly a marketing type with no idea in customer services at Wakefield, but Conoco/Phillips Petroleum ( Jet ) technical dept replied to an email within 2 hours with 4 possible reasons and the spec of their fuel, very helpfull.
So if your gauge is failing and youv'e done the cleaning bit thaen try a different brand and avoid Morrisons.
