Just noticed a very small pin hole , can I put a little filler in it and go over it with filler primer again , what's the best way??

Degsey a couple of points

Primer and filler are hygroscopic (absorbs moisture) Don't leave your work sitting out in the atmosphere overnight in the garage

If you have a cardboard box big enough to set the tank into you can set a 40W bulb (if you can find one these days) in it with the tank and switch it on and close the box up the heat will help keep moisture at bay

If you can get it up on a bench it makes a decent wee oven to bake off paint in this cold weather

If you are wondering why moisture is an issue Google "Micro blistering" basically it will look fine until you park in direct sunlight and the heat makes the moisture try to rise out thru the paint

So basically :- Fillers and stoppers, primers, coloured basecoats (paint you need to finish with lacquer) will all absorb moisture from the atmosphere

If you have to leave the job stick it back in the box with the lamp on

If you are leaving it for days put a thin coat of any gloss "rattle" can just to seal the surface

N.B. Obviously make sure the bulb can;t set the box on fire :thumb you'd be surprised what some numpties can do with a 100w bulb!

Also Look up "guide Coat" this is where you spray maybe satin black very lightly over the surface LINKY

the idea being that uneven surfaces caused by filler edges and decal lines will be more visible when you start flatting down with 800 W&D

One tip once you have it all nicely flat and smooth dust on a light primer again!

What happens is once you have all the guide coat off the primer is super smooth lightly dusting on primer gives it a key once again!

Good Luck

Yes you can dob in a tiny drop of stoppers to pinholes but not too deep or it won;t go off since it's single pack air dry usually

Cheers ,my garage has a huge double radiator in it and it sits at 20 degrees all day and night in the winter, will that do

It will be fine in the garage, second coat filler primer done , am a bit confused now do I flat it will 320 or 800 after I've dusted it, obviously when it's gone hard (oooow Mrs)

Did you read the guide coat thing?

pre painting or flatting is finish with 800 W & D

De nibbing or reducing the orange peel effect before polishing is 1200 W & D

I flatted through my guide coat with 320 prior to painting, plenty of water and wipe clean as you go :thumb2

Sorry Tunner cos I used to "Paint" I didn't click your link

It's so hard to convince people to do it tho and they are Always amazed when they see it first time

I learned the hard way about the flatting the guide coat off and not putting a light primer coat back on :D

It was smooth as a very smooth thing and the paint didn;t wanna stick LOL

I covered the topic of the guide coat in my long and tedious step by step tutorial :thumb

I like the workmate/batten tank holding methos so you can get at all the visible surfaces easily. I will be borrowing that idea:thumb2
