Pros and cons of ASA explained .

Test rode a GS with it yesterday.
Overall I wouldn't spec it for myself - yet.
A bit too glitchy in D along country lanes for taste. A bit like a learner driver.

Surprisingly in heavy traffic it was excellent - ie 1st gear shuffle.
Feathering around a tight U turn was no problem.
Also good on the motorway.

In M mode it felt like a perfect quick shifter, both going up and down.
Maybe I should spec it after all!

I must admit I was sceptical at first and thought what have I done as the change in auto wasn’t very good but it’s defiantly getting better already and I only have 700 miles on it. Happy boy now it does seem to learn what you want.

A good short vid by the excellent Ian at BRM covering the basics of ASA

5 mins 24 it can't see whats ahead

wow !!!

the cars had this capability way back in 2010 (15 years ago !!!) when they introduced the 8 speed auto and used the Nav system - it meant 40% fewer gear changes coz it could see ahead and said well it Is hill, its a corner, its a junction, Etc. don't bother changing - so because they can't be bothered to provide Nav on a 25k bike we get rubbish like this

I’ve ridden an ASA 1300GSA and agree with what Ian says
Everyone says it’s not good in auto , but superb in manual

Note he criticised the ASA for not downshifting on acceleration
Whereas on the new RT they are reporting that it immediately shifts down 2 gears on acceleration .
Needs more investigation

I believe that dealers upgrade their softwares and keep quiet about it ; they cannot have peeps returning and requesting a software update

So I wonder if ASA is secretly being updated and improved

Can anyone with a very recent build ASA GSA , report two gear downshifts on acceleration ?

Not a GSA, but my Sept 2024 GS does downshift if you accelerate hard, but not for gentle acceleration. It’s dependent on how much I twist the throttle. If I crack the throttle wide it changes down almost instantaneously. Never looked how many gears, but it’s sufficient for a quick overtake though and I’ve never felt the need to manually intervene and change down more gears.

my Nov 2024 registered Triple black GSA ASA has been recalled for a software upgrade. Booked in for 08/08/2025.
Not stated what the upgrade is for yet, but might take several hours??

There are many software updates on these new bikes, quite normal. Are you saying this is an official "recall" ?

the eCall Failure With Fault Code-Control Unit Is Not Provisioned - takes hours to update, but was meant to be fixed July build onwards in i-Level K001-24-07-500
there are multiple updates to the TFT screen as they bit by bit get some of the features they couldn't be bothered to get working first time
TFT updates are only for the screen - and has nothing to do with the bikes real i-level software

not sure if the TFT updates on the GS is on the exact timeline as the RT and K16 screens - I expect much of the software will be related - a quick review of some of the changes

"Recalled" or is it a "service enhancement" recalls are done via DVLA
My Nov24 GS ASA had sodtware update couple of month ago, it was to fix a fault where some had experienced the bike going into neutral after setting off. Could be dangerous if you were joining a busy road etc.

With the software updates my understanding is that once it's started, they do not know how long it will take to complete and like any software update the process must not be interrupted.
So even if it's only like to take an hour to complete they're putting in an extensive time window around the process.

No Idea what the recall is for.
This was the email
