PS3 as a dvd player?

Although a pensioner, I decided that a PS3 from Woolworth's with 10% off seemed a good idea before Xmas - it's got the 80gb drive in it - but can't seem to discover what use the hard drive on it is?

Doesn't seem I can record a borrowed or rented game on it - and it doesn't appear to want to record a rented Blue Ray film to it!!

So - what CAN I use on it? Music? - that's on the computer

Pictures? - they're also on the computer!!

Any ideas, please - either rude - or useful !!

Mike
It Stores the OS as well as games downloaded from the Playstation store. It also stores your highscores/progress, updates downloaded etc.

Also if you buy PlayTV you can turn your PS3 into a PVR and record your favourite TV programs (to the PS3s hard drive) to watch at a later date, plus the usual abilities of being able to pause and rewind live TV.

This feature becomes even cooler if you also have a PSP as you can use the remote play function to watch live TV or any programs you have recorded from anywhere in your house on your PSP, or so long as you have your PS3 connected to a broadband internet connection you can actually watch TV anywhere in the world that your PSP can find and connect to an internet enabled wifi connection ;)

Now that's cool. Thanks for that Jamie!
