Hi All,

Today on my way into work my engine kept on 'randomly' cutting out. It had never done that before. No alarm lights etc came on at the time. I have to put the bike into neutral to start it which made me wonder if it was possible the side stand switch that may have corroded or something along those lines.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? any ideas on what it could be before I take it into a dealership...

I have not experienced something like that myself. However, I seem to remember to have read from others who had occational cut-outs e.g. when pulling the clutch in a turn arround or so. It seemed to boil down to a theory that such cut-out were an early warning for an upcoming FPC failure. Not sure if that was verified and not sure if that has any connection to your case. :nenauAnyway, good look with it.:beerjug:

Hi
I had this problem a couple of years ago. Dealer diagnosed it as a faulty cam-shaft position sensor. When the offending item was removed, the pickup sensor(carbon rod like an electric motor brush) was found to be broken in half. Repaired under warrenty and no problems since.

There may of course be something else that is causing the problem. Get it to a dealer for a diagnostics test.

Hi, Thanks for the response I am wondering what FPC is in this context :()

I had water under the FPC due to a damaged seal, which caused the bike to cut out after heavy rain.

If you're having to put it into neutral to re-start, then at least you know the clutch switch needs readjusting.

Was there no pattern to the cutouts eg when pulling the clutch in, or did it cut out under power? When was it last serviced?

mine did this

then started again and ran fine, then the fpc went whilst I was in germany in the middle of berlin, no warning no lights nothing, Do a search on here and have a look at yours, if it doesnt look a1 get it changed, if it was not the fpc at least you will have a spare, simple test change it if it works okay, then that was your problem.
