Thing is, these aren't tourances... they're Anakees... :( Which are more expensive, and much more rare, it seems. Most places that have them listed will only special order them, quoting between 4 days to over a week delivery.

And, yes, I'm contemplating putting Tourances on; But hopefully I can ride out with the slime in the tyre, and if that doesn't work, I can do a bit of planning and get the wheels off myself and take them to a place that can change both front and rear for much less than the quoted £175..:beerjug:

Didn't understand that bit... what was the problem getting the wheel off...
5 minute job on the 1150... is there something different/complicated on the 1200???

Easier still on the 1200, caliper stays in place. Simply remove the 5 wheel bolts .. thats it:)

Sorry, they're having a laugh!

My local tyre supplier charged me GBP 89.53 + VAT for a rear Anakee (or GBP 59.34 + VAT for TKC80), and I have to say that removing and refitting the wheel was the easiest I've ever done on any vehicle.

5 studs only (like a car, but without the jacking), and no brakes to worry about. Front is slightly harder, but easier than a lot of bikes.

One thing though, you should torque the studs when replacing the wheel (also no lube to the studs or mating surfcaes).

Bit of an update...

Righto...

Got the bike back, serviced and all, no complaints at all. Very good chaps. Everything perfect.

Both tyres were silmed with UltraSeal (FOC  )...

... Which worked quite well, it lost a little pressure, but this was with the :shoot: screw in the tyre. And I really wasn't happy with that... so my attempt last night to unscrew the screw resulted in UltraSeal not sealing it. Surprise?! Not really. I wonder if some of the UltraSeal has leaked out and that there wasn't enough in the tyre to seal it now.

Anyhoo.... screwed the screw back at the garage and rode home... then I unscrewed it and patched it with BMW's own kit (good to have a spare one!), and this seems to have worked perfectly. The kit is extremely easy to use, and fast.
I've now monitored the pressure and there has been no confirmed leak. :beerjug: :beerjug:

Lesson learnt?
- UltraSeal should probably be used as a preventive measure, not repairing measure (oops, it says so on the leaflet!)
- Don't "fret" when the garage tells you you're fubared.
- Planning saves pennies (i.e having a set of tyres would have saved all this hassle)
- The BMW puncture repair kit is, so far, quite amazing. I just hope it'll stand up to a bit more than promised "on the tin" (60km/h and 'replace immediately')
- BMW prices, will, erhm, always be BMW prices :P

Thanks for the replies everybody!

Do we have nice weather for this weekend...? :beerjug:

Just wonder how many of these screws etc are actually picked up in and around the dealers?

Bolt size

Can someone tell me the tork size to remove the 5 rear wheel bolts.

I assume it is a tork pattern?

Got an amazing long piece of metal in the centre of the tyre will take a picture when I get chance.

Cheers

Eric

for what little it's worth, I've ridden a patched rear (patched with the same plug as the BMW kit) for over 5000km with no worries at all... in my experience if the plug makes it through the first few hundred miles without incident, it should last the life of the tire... didn't have ultra seal inside it though...

expensive tires!... that's roughly we pay over here in the arse end of Asia and we get taken for ride price wise on everything bike related... anyway...

I had a screw lodged in my rear Tourance, which was nearly new. I got it plugged by a bike tyre specialist for £25 in Wandsworth and then took the bike round Brands Hatch without mishap (see picture on separate thread).

I have used the BMW tubeless repair kit in the past but would not trust it as a permanent repair.
