Can anyone help. Looking at either the Garmin Quest 2 or The TT Rider for both car and bike use. However I am struggling to find out if the both have full postcode recognition and if they are compatible with Auto Com.

Can anyone help.

I think both have full postcode search, but you can only connect the Quest to an autocom...But the experts will be along soon :thumb

I've just bought a Quest 2 and used it in car and (for the first time today) on bike too. Using mounts and connectors from RAM UK. All works fine, but I don't think it has a postcode search facility. If it does, I haven't found it yet...

If an expert comes along in a minute and says differently, we'll both have learned something!

I don't use an Autocom, but from info I've read here and elsewhere, it is compatibile. Probably best check, though.

Thanks for that, can I ask where you bought your unit from?

The Quest 2 provides full Post Code search facility.

The Quest 2 comes pre-loaded with City Navigator Europe NT, which features full coverage of Western Europe, including millions of points of interest like gas stations, ATMs, hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Whether it really has or not I don't know!

If it has a postcode search facility, I can't find it! If anyone knows it has it, please post some instructions...

Thanks,

Robin.

Right, I didn't have postcode search facility, although I only bought my Quest 2 within the past week or so. I have just downloaded updated software to MapSource and now have postcode search facility on MapSource on PC ("Check for Updates" on Help menu).

After downloading this, I had a new Garmin programme on PC called web updater, and the narrative while running this suggested it was updating software on GPS unit itself, which took a couple of minutes. However, now this is done I can't see that it's any different. :nenau

Don't know if I can transfer the postcode search facility to the Quest, so if anyone can enlighten me, I'd be very grateful. (Having said that, I can't see that I'll have the need to do so very often, and the "address search" facility is pretty nifty anyway.)

From threads on the PocketGPSWorld forums, you need to be on at least version 2.40 of the firmware to get full post code search, and when you are on that, you enter the post code instead of the town name :nenau

Oh, and firmware v2.60 is out now, and some people have found the map re-draw speed has got better. YMMV

Hooray

It was v2.60 I downloaded yesterday. I can now search using postcode, exactly as suggested above. Thanks, Samwise. :thumb

It doesn't work searching for "Cities" in find menu, only in "addresses" - just enter the postcode instead of city name. Don't know if I could have done this before the download, as I didn't try - user manual doesn't mention searching by postcodes at all, unfortunately.

Don't know if it has speeded up map re-drawing, but will try it now and see. Although I didn't really think it was that big a problem before, to be honest.

Robin.

Driven a short journey and didn't get a blank screen and "re-drawing" at all that I noticed. (tried to keep at least one eye on the road.) So maybe software download has sped up the processing as well.
