Quite open-ended question

I have been using Tomtom mobile on my smartphone, which has been decent, but I am about to hit Europe, and need to sort out a new system.

I don't really want to upgrade to version 5, for £180, and then pay £120 for maps of Europe, and still have a non-waterproof system that is only useful as long as I have the phone.

So, I have an R1200GS, I have some money, and I need some advice.

One thought is the new garmin Nuvo, which looks cool, and shich I could put in one of those otterboxes for PDAs, and nail to the bike, somehow. I like the full postcoode lookup, tiny size (useful for reastaurant guides when sippping a cocktain on the shore of lake Como), and general look, but I know it is not bike based.

Then there is Tomtom rider, plus European maps, for about £460 all in.

Or one of the garmin bike ones, of which there are a multitude, and which makes my head hurt.

One advantage with the nuvo is that, if I then got a jacket with a map sleeve on the arm, it could go in there.

Or in a tank bag, actually.

Or just in a plastic bag on the tank.

My love of gadgets points me to the tiny new one. Mainly, though, I want to be talked from Bellagio to the Nurburgring and then to a bar in Seville, with the least hassle.

So, after reading all I can here, I have come to the conclusion that...

I have no clue.

Help, please. Biased and unreasonable views are well appreciated.

It’s wise to ask.

There is an up coming deal I believe with gpsw.co.uk ie Garmin 2610 and mount, European mapping inc for around £300 ish, due any time soon we’re told and with plenty of stock…

Is that a good all round choice, then?

I am pretty tempted to nail the nuvo onto the instrument surround, and put it in a tank bag when it rains.

If you think I'd be better with the 2610, could you let me know why you reckin this is?

(If that's ok?)

Thanks
