The handlebar grips on my 1100 are a bit worn out. I was looking for something a bit nicer than the rather dull-looking 'ringed black' standard grips. Any recommendations bearing in mind my grips are heated?

I may be wrong but I don't think its possible to replace the grip on its own. the heating element is integral to it. glued inside.

so if you want new grips you will have to replace the entire unit.

if you were to try then you will need to very carefully cut the old rubber away and then fit new rubbers... but it seems far too difficult an operation. more trouble than its worth perhaps.

So.. if you want new grips - buy a new set and flog the old ones on ebay or on this site. to recoup some of your cash.

i think you will find they only come in pairs and cost a fortune!!!!!!!!
you dont get just the grip you get the whole unit

No, they're available as single parts, left or right, and with no other gubbins if you don't want it.

There have been quite a few people on this site & Advrider, who've replaced worn grips on their heated grips, including myself. Some have done it because the grips were worn & others because the element needed to be repaired. It is perfectly straightforward to use a sharp craft knife to carefully split the old grip along it's length & trim the glued bits at each end. You then use 2 right hand grips from BWM (any dealer will order/sell you 2 r/h grips) to replace the worn ones. Hairspray, squirted down the middle of the new ones helps them to slide on easily & helps bond them in place as it evaporates.

If you don't like the BWM black ones, you will need to buy two pairs of whatever alternatives take your fancy & just use the r/h ones...

I think Mike O did a write up and pics on this...can't find it! I've heated grips and have replaced both grips using the method described above. Just need two throttle grips and some hairspray.:D

or.... cut a 3 inch length of cycle inner tube and slide it on the grip, replace as necessary.

Grips

Don't use hairspray, they go on ok without it and this stuff acts as an unescessary glue and when removing them makes the job difficult. having done this with no hairspray and it works.
