It's something that many of of have encountered and when in strange and foreign lands and your starter motor disintegrates here's how to fix or replace.
The standard Bosch starter can be replaced with a widely available Valeo alternatrive and used by Peugeot and Citroen and others.

The Valeo D6RA15 NS D6RA55 are viable alternative solutions which can be canabalised and get you on the road again.

The attached link explains in detail how to overhaul and what to replace from the Valeo so there is no need to push start .... until you drown it again and break the starter motor... again ... ;)

unbeleivably good timing,mate:thumb

My starter has been getting sluggish for the past few months - i thought it was the battery, so i bought a new one.

No joy. Yesterday it failed to turn over , even being jumped off our twin battery pajero - so i figured it could do with a look at.

Stripped it all down and all the magnets have come unglued off the casing

I've glued them back on but i cracked the plastic brush holder bit - not sure if i can bodge it together or not. :blast

i think the article is mainly airhead related - i don't think the starters listed for the cars are the same as the oilhead ones ?

A nice find Marc :thumb2
The list of possible donor vehicles is a neat touch, combined with the info on which bits swap directly.
