Hi

I have spoked polished wheels and have to say they are the worst wheels to clean ever, has anyone had them sprayed or any tips of what to use on them in the winter. The salt allready getting at them, any help would be great thanks :-)

Regards Rob

My 1100 wheels are the original raw alloy ones and as you say, corrode very easily.

I dissolve some acf50 grease in naphtha (panel wipe) and paint it onto the rims. The solvent evaporates and leaves a layer of grease - works a treat through salty winters. The rest of the bike gets sprayed with acf50 but making a paintable grease forms a tougher coating and is much easier to apply where it's needed.

You could use petrol instead of naphtha - it's just a bit smelly until it evaporates. Likewise, you could use any old grease but the acf50 stuff contains corrosion inhibitors and is a white (well actually very light blue) grease so it's relatively invisible when applied. As with anything like this, you just have to live with all the road crap that sticks to the bike and not use soap on it until it gets its 'spring clean'.
