R1150GSA brake warning light

I have a R1150GSA on an '03 plate with servo. The bike has a new gel battery and is left on an Optimate in my garage.

When I start the bike from cold the lower of the 2 red lights on the dash stays on, brakes are fine and all seems well, apart from this light.

When I stop and start off again the light extinguishes. Any ideas.

I understood the light was there to indicate the rear brake light was working (or similar), I looked at the rear light an it is an aftermarket one with a bank of LED's. Could this be the reason?

i fitted the led light to my 1150 servo brakes when i set of both lights go out but as soon as i applied the bike the warning light came on. its due to the voltage draw i returned it to motorworks

I have the same bike, but 04. I tried to fit an LED panel from my previous GS. I had the same problem, warning light stayed on all the time (even after moving off). I just went back to a normal bulb and all was well.

If I remember correctly, there are two versions of the LED plate - one for bikes with Servo and one for bikes without. I have a servo bike which has had a complete servo-ectomy and have the LED plate works without throwing up the bulb warning light...

but your bike wont have the warning bulbs if your have removed the servo system.

The lights are still there - I don't know if the warning system works any more or not (moot point with LED stop/tail lamp)...

OK the ABS control unit on the Servo brake system monitors the current draw in the Brake and Tail light. If it sees the current less than optimal, it assumes a lamp failure and puts a warning light on (General warning light the one with the triangle).

If you have an LED tail light unit fitted, then because LED's do not draw as much current as a conventional bulb, then the warning light will come on.

As MikeO says, there were two types of led units available. The LED tail unit for the Servo brake models has an additional resister installed so that the same current is drawn.

If you have removed the servo, but kept the servo control unit, then your rear lights will still be monitored for failure, but of course if you have an LED unit, then failure is a lot less likely.
