ok, hopefully the third semi sensible answer.
If you can't afford a 1200 but like the idea of a GS you will be far from dissapointed by an 1150, be it a GS or GSA. The 1150 and 1200 are different beasts to ride but both have their good, and bad, points.
Having covered fairly big miles on 1200s of all types (it was part of the job) I personaly think the 1150 is the better bike of the 2 and is certainly where I would spend my money if I had to pick between the 2. There are plenty of people who will tell you the exact opposite, and I would never have either over an 1100
At the end of the day you've just got to get on one and ride it for a few big days one after the other and you'll fall in love with it which ever model it is.

last night I dreamed,I had swapped my new 1200tu for a mint 1150gsa se.

I awoke in a cold sweat,and kid you not, the dream was so realistic I had to go into the shed to make sure my bike was still there

Thankfully it was,and I retuned to bed.

It must have been around me bumping into my old bike and it's new owner at seaways cafe on Sunday ?

Then get one, these bikes are not rice rockets. If you are capable (or wish) to service and repair yourself then an early GS is your best option. Both will cruise at 90+ MPH all day every day. A well maintained 1150 will easily pass 170,000 mls. Difference in speed between an 1150/1200 is not that great. Can you truthfully notice the difference between a full /half or empty tank when riding a bike? ref: weight.
Just get an 1150 they are a feckin great bike

Ok, I see my comment( empty tank}. The bike stops, yes it feels different. Its quite and there is no vibration.!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got 42,000 miles on my 1150 (GS, not GSA), and it still does everything I need and most of what I want. Not sure I'd change it if I could afford to.

I tried a 1200 when they first came out: lighter, faster (top end kick, perhaps not torque), and maybe a bit more flickable. A touch less un-sportsbike than the 1150. GSA bulk probably negates that?

Not sure if this is a sensible reply: I did think seriously about an R60/6 recently, so I might be a touch Upton Park...

I've had both 1150's and preferred the GSA. The handling was much the same for either bike ( excellent ) but the Adv just looks better. imho.
The 1200 is a bit more modern looking, a tad lighter - like who cares about the weight if you're buying one of these things ?
There's not really any difference either speed or handling in the real world. I would go 1150 GSA and be very happy with it. Its also more comfortable than the 12.

Had my 1200 adv 4 years and 1150's for about the same.

Good comments, to which I can echo. Many talk about vibes on their 1200's, whereas I find very little on the 1150 GSA because of the rubber damped pegs & bars!
Having had both, go for what you like and can afford!

I regret selling my 1150 GSA SE but love my 1200 GSA 30 year Anniversary .They are both great bikes ,I feel the 12 is more flattering of my riding ability ,corners better and feels lighter underway ,but either will keep you happy

+1 (almost). Had both and much prefer the 1150GSA I now have. For me I never really gelled with the 1200GSA. I felt perched on top of it rather than, as now, part of the bike. The 1200 was a little (and I mean little) bit quicker in a straight line but on the twisties the 1150 just seems to flow. The 1150 is day long comfort whereas the 1200 was hard work and bum numbing ( I know, we've had this conversation before). Just my opinion. That's all I have to say about that

Sorry to thread hijack, but not having ridden an 1150 GSA could anyone comment on how the weather protection compares? - I find the 1200 GSA really good for something that doesn't have a proper fairing like an RT.

There are probably too many variables to make a valid comparison without actually riding them both back-to-back (I mean that your size, shape and where you sit on the bike will affect the result).

I find the standard 1200GSA screen is better than the standard 1150GSA one but for some reason the 1200's cylinders don't protect your lower legs and feet as well as the 1150 does, plus the 1200's all seem to have the ability to chuck what's on the road over the rider's left leg.

In a general comparison, I find the 1200GSA faster than my 1150GSA. Top speeds (for me) are irrelevant, acceleration less so but the 1150GSA is fast enough for a bike of it's intended design.

As with others, I find the riding position to be 'on' rather than 'in' and I prefer the former.

I can see why people like the 1200 and understand why they sell so well but unless someone wants to buy brand-new, I cannot for the life of me see why second-hand 1200's sell when there are 1150's out there, especially if long-term ownership is intended.
