Along with the R it's the relatively forgotten 1150 of its era... Really a riders bike and if you rode them enough you had a big respect for them... That's the most expensive one I've seen recently but it has hardly used mileage... Very tyre specific in the day....
Unless its pissing down, (they call me the butterfly) ….mine are out at least every couple of weeks. When I was working, my 1200GS was used most days. why would you own anything and not use it, what’s the point.
Ridden a couple of these as loaners. I remember the feedback through the bars was "remote" due to the rubberised fittings that were used to reduce engine vibes (The one I had may have had slightly loose bolts - the bars seemed to move slightly independantly.... )
The other thing I remember mainly was getting extremely wet hands (more so than with a completely unfaired bike). I can only hypothesise that the aerydynamics over the bars from the fairing were slightly off.
Great bikes with a simple flat bar conversion, just drill the top yoke & add a pair of clamps. Most are quite cheap now.
Two things come to mind:
1- servo brakes
2- they get very hot when idling and the hot downpipes damage the lower fairing mounts (they can melt in worst case scenario)
3- a nice low seat, not so comfy for long legs.
