Hey all, i was wondering if the good folks on here could help.
Basically i have bought an 08' R1200 RT-P Ex met Police bike and currently converting it back to a standard RT.
I have managed to buy a cheap ESA wiring loom and front and rear ESA suspension from a guy in germany. £200 all in which i didnt think was bad.
Anyway i have got the wiring loom in and the suspension and all fits like a dream. However now a funny thing has happened. So the bike starts fine and runs but the Dash + Speedo clocks dont work? When you plug them in they light up for a moment and then go off. I am not sure why this is? Different ECU Program? Any help please?
Thanks James

So, let me get this right.

You have put ESA on a non ESA bike?

If thats the case you will have to get the bike programmed at a BMW dealer. The instrument panel basically doesnt know the bike has ESA, as it didnt came from factory with it.

Be warned, programming can be an issue, control units can go down irretrievably costing fortunes, not trying to scare monger just pre warning.

Yes thats basically it. I assumed it must be a programming issue.
However i have tried to run the bike without the ESA plugged in but still doesn't work.

Hi James,

Just re read your OP and understand it a bit better now....:blast

Did the Kombi (Instrument panel) work/function OK before you swapped the bits over? Is it the original Kombi or did the bits you bought include a new one?

I converted my RTP and from memory there is only a couple of plugs on the back of it and only a few wires. Does it have the calibrated speedo still?

Back track what you have done, might be a connection issue.

Failing that sounds like the Kombi has gone down. You could try a battery re set, (remove battery positive and negative, join them together for a few seconds).

Yes the Kombi worked before i swapped over the bits and its the original one with the calibrated speedo
There appears to be only one connection on the right hand side of the clock and there isnt any other spare wires so i imagine that is the only one.
Also it does work if you press one of the black buttons on the front for the dimmer, it comes on for a few seconds as you change the dim settings and then off. But it doesnt show fuel lever and gear selected, Just mileage.
Also how do you re set? Join the main battery wires together?

Spoke to park lane bmw and said they cant do anything to flash the ecu. So i was wondering if its worth buying a second hand one to try? Not sure if it will work?
