Has anyone managed to recode the early (2014 ish) locks that were supplied as non-recodeable or at least managed to remove any of the wafers?

I'm trying to recode a set and obviously avoid buying all new locks, there doesn't appear to be anything obvious holding the wafers in but they don't want to budge!

When I did mine I was initially pushing them the wrong way...

Were yours the early type?

Don't know what the difference is.

The bike is a Sept 2013, but the top box wasn't supplied from new. It was a used one thrown in by the dealer when I bought it in 2016.

As I understand it, with the current locks (like the 04-13 bikes) the wafers will virtually fall out of the barrel, with the early LC bikes the wafers are somehow secured in ... but I can’t work out how!

Okay some more details ... for the early (non-recodeable) GSA LC pannier locks, I've discovered that if the front lock cover is removed (possible but with some difficulty) once the two dust latches and springs are removed there's a pin going through the whole lock that doesn't exist on the recodable versions. Once this pin is removed they're the same as the recordable locks, it just falls out with a small tap of the barrel. I think I'll make up a tool to more easily remove the front cover on the others that need doing. Now I just need to source 18 size 2 wafers!

I assume this would be the same for the Varios but I think the cover that needs to be removed is plastic rather than steel.

A picture for anyone needing to attempt re-coding of the early LC locks, although a better tool would avoid butchering the barrel so badly! With the pin removed they're just like the earlier and later locks:

I have recorded loads of lock barrels over the years, but my new to me LC Adv arrived with one pannier lock barrel having fallen out during the previous owners ownership.

I had a brand new pannier lock kit ie new barrel and wafers so set about the usual coding. All good, but for the life of me I can’t get the final lock tab to stay in the barrel. This is the bit that supposedly stops the barrel from falling out, once fitted in place.

Any tips or tricks?

But this is presumably why the old lock barrel fell out in the first place as I can get the final tab to stay in situ on that either.

Seems the same issue as on I had on my old LC sat nav prep lock barrel, which again fell out whilst riding. Whereas I tried removing the final tab from another old lock barrel, and that took real effort to remove it.
