R1200GSA

I think perhaps BMW have discovered a design problem with the handle bars, because the cross bar now looks quite tacky and out of place spoiling the aesthetics of the bike.

Because of the extra long crossbar there is no room the fog light switch so they have mounted it in the next accessible place at the top of the yoke, again spoiling the aesthetics.

If you notice the cross bar has been extended to go above the bend in the bars, my guess is that they have had complaints of the bar bending under extreme weight or braking

Perhaps owners of early 1200GSA may get a recall notice ?

Or am I talking S**T ?

I think you have some valid points, although I would disagree about the repositioning of the fog switch. Personally I thought it looked to cluttered up on the handlebars. Although an autoswitch would be better!

Moving the brace further up the bars I would say is definitely to strengthen them.

Glad I have one of the "old" ones - that new crossbar and fog switch look really odd IMO - maybe I'm just used to mine. I've had plenty of rutted gravel road action (about 1000 miles so far) and no sign of bending thus far thankfully.

Mine to, but why have they changed the crossbar, even the foam BWM wrap covering the bar doesn't fit the new bar correctly. Looks Odd

TKC 80's

Having only managed to do just over 300 miles since last Thursday, I don't think these TKC's are going to last to long. The torque of this bike is huge and this is really showing in the tyres! DD

hi DirtyDog, I was in Clarks moaning about rusty crash bars when you picked yours up, glad to hear its met your expectations and more! Mine has certainly impressed me all round. I got 4500 miles out of my rear TKC so I wouldnt worry too much about them wearing out just yet! :thumb

Interesting reposition of the foglight swith, guess there's a valid reason. Mine was replaced under warranty after 300 miles as it wouldnt switch off after a severe downpour and the damp got into it.

Hi jay, that's good to hear!

So I presume the crash bars got scratched then started to rust? Or, are they rusting on the welds?

Hi mate, Yeah starting to rust through ever so slightly at the welds - Dan said send some photos of it in and they'll put it to warranty, which is cool. Think I'm gonna wait until I get all my 'summer' riding done first though then get them replaced.

Dan's a good bloke, I'm sure he'll sort it. They were very good with my 1150 when I needed a new box and replacement discs, no messin about!

We'll have to get over to Wales one of the Sunday's and get dirty :thumb

Definately - did a run over to Wales with Mutley and a few other lads off the site, that was a fantastic bit of off-roading, it amazed me how capable the bike was for its size and weight! just ploughed through it! :beerjug:

Name a Sunday and we'll get it sorted sure there's a few of us who'd be up for it! names on a postcard to the usual address!! :thumb

Hi Dirty Dog,

Great Bike.

I hope my new 12GSA is going to be the same as yours, with the new mods I mean. Mine is to be delivered in the next 2 weeks, so they say.
Keep you posted, enjoy your bike, I am planning a trip to the Ardenne/Eifel to christen mine in Oct, hope the weather plays ball, oh well tunr the heated grips on and carry a heavy weight sleeping bag, that's what I say.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure you will have the new model Paul. Mine was build week 32.

You really will love the bike!

Enjoy :thumb

Get mine soon

Get mine on Saturday, very excited :bounce1 (wonder how many other of the boys will be queuing for their toys).

Thanks for the thread Dirtydog, no surprises when I collect it now. I too think it an inelegant solution to move the switch to the middle but I think Tyrone has it right and it explains why I saw a GSA with a bent handlebar at Jeffries a few weeks back. :mmmm

I'm told the tinted panel on the tank is 'olive' :ymca Just like mine :clap

Extra switch

Looking at the pics again its reminded me that there's a 'blank' switch next to the fog light one. Any ideas why its there?, what might one use it for :nenau I've always been a bit miffed by this sort of thing on cars :( - it makes me wonder what I'm missing and this is the first time I've taken (almost) every extra on a bm :mmmm

Mine may arrive Monday,ish.

Bit of a bugger as I wanted to pop over to France on Tuesday, and I've only done 100 miles on the 950 SE,so can't get enough miles on that before then to get first service done.

Just hope GSA might pitch up Monday and get PDI'd Tuesday am.

Unlikely,I know !

Ah,bugger

Have heard that the longer handlebar brace is to solve the problem with it interfering with the BMW tank bag ... typical shite BMW solution! :spitfire

Would be useful if you were to use some extra spot lights :thumb

This has been bugging me for ages as well and even my dealer was unable to find out.

However... I just found this pic a week ago :beerjug:
R1200GS.info -leftswitch.jpg

After a bit of checking it seems all the US models have the warning lights in that position

I think it might be waiting for ASC on models for over here (seems that way from the manual anyway which describes it even before they're being made).

Talking of GPS mounting points, I've already got one  It vibrates like hell though (especially at tickover) not sure if it will damage the unit while I wait for BM to get their act together.

(no comments about my neighbours drainpipes or fence either please) :nono

And another thing whats all this about tyre pressure sensors, thats another toy I wasn't offered :spitfire

whilst I'm hogging this thread

and another thing;

I've got to say the brakes ARE excellent :thumb None of that nasty whining and unless I've got used to it so quick I've not noticed, none of that nothing, nothing oh my god! grab that they used to have - just excellent, smooth power.

Will have to work on the suspension a bit - feels a bit bouncy compared to what I'm used to on my 1150.

Still getting used to the height as well as the slightly wierd feeling of buffeting on my forearms whilst my shoulders and head are in still air (not sure whats going on there, wondering if I should raise the bars as we're supposed to be able to - not that the manual says anything I can find at first glance)

Otherwise I am a seriously happy bunny - and those panniers are fabulous (to my great surprise they'd arrived)

I picked the bike up on what must have been the wettest weekend since March, if it had been any other bike I'd have been miserable, as it was it just mean't I wasn't so bothered that I couldn't go above 4000revs :bounce1
