R1200RT Mods

I had an 08 12RT and did 47000 miles. Never bothered with fuel pump awning nor alternative screen but found the stock seat to be very poor for the pillion so fitted Kahedo seats which I bought second hand, still expensive but worth every penny! The BMW comfort seat is also very good, and arguably should have been fitted by BMW as standard. The infil panels are OK, I fitted some but then removed them as I didn't like the look of them. I've still got them if anyone wants them. A fender extender is def worth it as well.

Thanks all!

BeemerBaz - that looks like a nice install and well worth doing.

Our Gee - another simple mod well worth doing in my book.

dicktheleg - I'd love to have had a look but I think work will preclude - damn this working!

JayGee - the comfort seat sounds great but as I'm 6'2" I had the standard seat on its higher setting when I test rode the RT and the comfort seat is lower than stock so I'm not sure if that would work for me.

Grip Puppies...

Fitted some to my RTLC as i found the grips just a bit narrow for my XL hands.

Easy to fit and very comfortable, and they take the edge of the vibration at high speed.

I fitted BMW Twin Horns to my 2008 RT and this was an easy job as that year still had the wiring "spur" complete with plug to mate up with the extra Horn. There is even a bracket ready to accept the extra Horn.
I removed the Twin Horn set when I changed to my present 2013 Twin Cam. Re-fitting was a more complicated affair as BMW has seen fit to omit the Wiring Loom "Spur".
There a number of ways to mount the extra Horn so it will depend on your individual skill and dexterity. To wire the extra horn I spliced into the original wiring loom "in parallel". I asked my dealer if I need a relay and he said "no".
Never had a problem in 10 months of use.

The Stebil Nautilus fits nicely under the left side bodywork.

I also got rid of the stock horn. Put a Stebil in also. I also put on engine guards and illium road pegs.
