R1250GS 2019 Wouldnt Start

Don't disagree, but that's only the same CCA as the OEM battery, Better to go for the YUASA YTX14H-BS with 240CCA - heavy duty version of the standard battery, gives better cold start and turns over a bit quicker.
This is the battery you want not the lower CCA one!! It has the H in the code for High Performance

It’s an idea, and not expensive.

That said, I’m always a bit suspicious of no-name lithium battery packs. Probably ok, but if, as a result of rattling round in your top-box, it goes pop, you can forget your bike, it’ll be a goner. I’d strap it to a foam pad to minimise shock & vibration.

and if our paths crossed at the precise moment that my mighty steed failed to start again, it’ll be no bloody use at all to me if I don’t get the bloody torx screwdriver to take the bloody panel off…

Not keep the OEM one under your seat ?

Battery, and T25 screwdriver ordered. Thanks to all.

Have my bike plugged into Optimate Charger all the time for triggle management as its only riding maybe every 2 weeks. Had it out 4 times this week though so had a good run over 200km.

Took it out today to pop down the shops and the missus popped inside I turned it off whilst sitting reading the phone.

Tried to start it when she came out, it flashed up with brake light fault across screen contact service centre. Then tried again and it showed tilt sensor activated unable to start. Bear in mind I had been sitting on it stand up with 2 feet planted the entire time.

Battery showed 12.2 V, and screen wasn't fading like a low battery but the started would tick over twice then fade off. This went on and on around 4 power of on and ons and trying start button.

Moved the bike to another spot by pushing it as I was just on roadside with a bit of traffic. Again same on of and 2 start attempts then fade off.

Send herself off for tea and coffee as she had a angered expression. And I gave it two more tries and it decided to kick in. Straight up and running fine.

Only thing I done was touch the cables going into the top of the cylinder heads to see if they were loose.

Anyone have this happen ? I seen some posts in the states of similar issues.
Mine has done exactly this . its a 2019 1250 gsa. it only does it when at operating temp, and only when restarting after a couple of minutes ,ie fuel stops. Its done it from new and been back numerous times but not played up in the presence of the bmw techs and plug in diagnostics shows nothing. it broke down over the christmas break with the same symptoms you describe , initially bmw said it was battery, its not, ive bought 3, then said its the starter motor and the battery which is now out of warranty .So ive bought another battery and bmw fitted a starter yesterday , hopefully thats sorted it after 4 years. If it turns out to be the starter then it will have been the starter all along which pisses me right off as its only been repaired now its out of warrany...bmw will tell you that they never see this problem...they should go onto you tube, theres bleeding loads of them

Is your battery the higher crank one per the Yuasa 'H' model mentioned in thread or is it the lower cap normal one same as bmw.

its the higher cranking motorbatt MBYZ16H as was the last one
Funnily enough I had the same issue with this battery as you and replaced it with the High Performance Yuasa one and the issue so far hasn't popped back up. (luckily I used the 14 day return rule)

OK this is weird.

So on Friday my Battery reads 12.5 before i start it.

This morning at 6:30am in garage optimate doing nothing, so i assume battery is full... like you do.
I wheel it out, get my gear on and lots of it as its -4c... feckin freezing!
Bike starts but not with the gusto it normally does?

Get to work, lock bike up.

at 4pm i come out and first thing the keyless start isn't picking up the key fob, i'm getting the red flashing signal on dash.
i faff for a few seconds and thing i need to change the battery in the fob.... i have one in the pannier, but cant be arsed im outside in the cold... feck it do it later.
key under read mudguard press ignition and we are lit.

Bike again struggles to start, but does.
When i get home i park on drive while i go in and open side gate and garage.
Come out it takes a couple of tries to start bike... its getting worse?
Battery at 12.1

Get bike in garage and plug the optimate in din socket.

So NOW its charging!!
What happened over the weekend, did my optimate go on the piss and have an hangover... yea fuck the bike!

Truth is probably that this freezing weather is playing havoc with batteries

How old is your battery?? I had the exact same symptoms but when I left work it started fine, road 14 miles and popped into local Tesco only to come out and the bike won't start.

I have not had a issue since I changed battery to the Yuasa high performance YUASA YTX14H-BS

I’ve had the opposite with mine. Fitted a Motobatt MBYZ16HD oversized AGM without issue (I thought) until the day I was departing with biker mates for Italy. Got to mates house four miles away and stopped the bike. Bugger would not restart, had to dash back to mine in his car and grab my original battery plus Noco GB40 booster, rush back and swap batteries. Started straight away and was fine throughout Italy, didn’t need the Noco. Fecking thing, it’s back on the Motobatt and has only randomly struggled to restart from hot twice since. No rhyme or reason behind it.

My Hexhead used to crank slowly once hot, but nothing like this 1250 piece of shit. I suspect the decompressor is the cause.

I've had it 4 years and never changed the battery, It may be the original, bikes a 2017
it's been on optimate the whole time i've owned it though... well apart from when im out on it 🤣

If it is 12.2 your Battery is only 60% charged that is very low for starting a bike.

Its on the charger still, as its been snowing now i came to work in the car today 🐔 😁
once its had a good charge i will check it again, if its not playing ball i will buy a new battery.
the Yuasa high performance being my first choice.

Isn't there a T25 on the 1 end of the screwdriver shaft?
Yes, there is, I claim my award…

new battery fitted today, no hassle, thanks to all who responded.

Voltage was only 12.2, though it started without hestiation.
Battery now on float charge over the weekend, I guess it’ll be >12.5 by Monday.

fingers crossed I won’t get stuck again.

cheers!

Morning all. Update: new battery fitted (see pic, 240 CCA) been out this morning.

Bike warmed up max 5 mins, 1 mile to check tyres and fuel up, started no problems. Went for a ride, 30 miles in train crossing, switch bike off, before train came 5 mins max bike started again, switched bike off. Once train had passed another 5 to 8 mins started again.

So this morning, coldish start and a fully warm start ( few times) no problems , touch wood.

Hope this helps a few.
