I also had this issue on my GS for months and after many visits to the dealership they finally fixed it by replacing the clutch basket. They had previously adjusted the cam timing (like you said) but this didn’t fix it. Here are some videos displaying the noise on my bike, in case there are any riders still experiencing this problem!

Ww spoke also under YouTube video. Could you please ask your dealer which basket had the issue? Most probably is the big outer basket with the slipper clutch springs. Just to be sure before opening mine completely. Because I have already opened mine and checked disks and front inner basket and found ok. The funny thing is that I have bought a used basket with very mileage, like new, but I didn't replaced it when I opened for inspection because I thought that everything was fine.

The dealer told me they replaced the clutch basket. I’m not very technical, however, I know this can be replaced without replacing the clutch itself. My dealer had previously adjusted the cam timing, checked valves, and replaced the cam gears with no avail. I suggest you try the clutch basket change if your noise is the same as in my videos above. Hopefully your new clutch basket is also not faulty.

I've been convinced since day one that my noisy bike seems to be coming from the front clutch cover area. I will discuss this with my dealer at the next service.

Most probably I face 2 different noises. The first one comes from Intake camshafts when they are moving during shiftcam movement. This one has been eliminated, at 80% I would say, with the cam timing. This sound cannot be eliminated totally because is normal, I have tested with GS911, and I energize shiftcam and you can hear the same metallic touch. Maybe with different oils could be eliminated, with Motul and Liquy Moly I can hear it a little. Maybe with Bmw oil sound is less, I don't really remember because I have 3 years to check, but I prefer the excellent gearbox that I have with tge above oils.

The second sound that I hear is at higher rpms, above 5000, at cruising speeds. Above 5000rpms shiftcam is already energized so is not for sure the first noise. Maybe is a clutch basket gap as @GelandeStress said. Yesterday I removed my clutch basket and found one spring set, of 4 totally, that makes the clutch slipper, not the engagement springs, with gap. So I replaced them all with 4 other springs sets from the other basket with very low mileage. Of course any gap is gone. Let's test it now.

Keep me posted on your progress. My noise disappeared by 100% but today I heard a small noise, so I'm hoping the new clutch basket is not faulty too! Ride safe.
 
I completed my 24,000ml service yesterday, a bit late at 27500 mls.The old plugs, NGK 8 series looked a bit melted around the centre electrode.I replaced them with a cooler plug, an NGK 9 series.The valve clearances were spot on and haven't moved from new.
The motor hasn't pinked since replacement, and used to do it regularly.
I remain hopeful....
 
Have you ridden the bike HARD? Sometimes I think the noise has disappeared, but when I ride with heavy panniers or at high acceleration it comes back.
 
Someone commented on my YouTube video of the noise that their brand new 1300GS has the same noise - apparently the clutch basket unit is the same as the 1250GS. Hopefully it can be looked into by BMW now…
 
Ive ridden it HARD! It hasnt pinked once.Im so happy.
After all the grief with BMW, their customer "services" and travel to different dealers in the vain hope that one would even recognise it was pinking, it was a simple solution.
The closest they got to recognising the noise was by saying it souned like stones hitting the bottom of the engine!
Im sure a lot of the people I talked to didn't know what pre ignition was.
 
I don’t understand this though because the bikes are so modern and have sensors that avoid this. Are you sure the noise experienced by your bike is the same noise in the two videos I posted links to earlier in this thread? My clutch basket was replaced and the noise was fixed (for 2 months) and now it’s back.
 
Its hard to tell without riding yours, but as a mechanic and rebuilder of many high performance car and bike engines for over 40 years, I know what pinking sounds like.
The fact that the central electrodes of the plugs were starting to melt tells me the heat range was too hot.Maybe thats why they specify such a short change interval for an irridium plug, which should last at least 24k miles.
 
No.Mines out of warranty and I was desperate for a fix.So I thought it worth a go.And it was.
