R1300 Bmw luggage

Whilst the Shad boxes look nice I paid extra via BMW to have the luggage racks fitted for the various so seems senseless to remove and pay more for another fixing kit
I agree but if you can't be supplied with any varios and with no firm date when they will be available and have a trip planned you've no choice but to look at alternatives

I understand that Jim, and if there had been a firm date for getting the Varios I may have waited, but I had to make sure I had luggage sorted for a trip in mid-June. Getting the full SHAD set (including 3 inner bags as well) fitted for £250 less than the Varios (without any inner bags) softened the pain of taking off bits I had paid for.

Hi, yes, I narrowed it down to 3 options,

SW Motech Trax Adventure
Touratech Zega Evo
Wunderlich Extreme

In the end I ordered the Touratech, it was tricky decision, I do like the quick release racks on the Motech but I preferred the mounting system and lid latches on the Touratech
I’ve had the previous model Touratech Zega Pro for 8 years and they are top quality

There are also other options from Bumot etc.
Hi Leadfarmer, quick question does your wife's calfs catch on the hinges on the panniers ? Cheers

Hi, no they’re fine

The reason I originally went for touratech on the last GS was because they sit further back than varios, they give more leg and foot room if your pillion wants to move their feet around or simply put the balls of their feet on the pegs

They give plenty of space on the 1300

Their site’s a bit weird, change the colour of the racks or box sizes and it can go from months to days, it can also change from day to day, it’s worth checking tomorrow, things might have changed
That’s what happened for me

I've been into the dealers today to collect my tinted screen, they had the varios on display, when I asked if they were now available parts guy said no he has another set in the back but there not allowed to sell them !!!!

If i order silver frame instead of black its 3 to 4 weeks (y)

I like the SW Motech setup for the R1300GS with the quick release frame
I had Shad panniers for a few years on my S1000XR. Worked very well and waterproof. The 3P bars are quite discreet and did the job
These new ones as shown by the stimulator look good

Sportsbikeshop have them at £50 off but no stock until on or before May 24

Evening all. We've got a large batch of silver pannier frames already in transit. They are scheduled to be here within the week. And then more are due in to us within 2 weeks. Black frames are going to be a little longer.

Any chance of some more pics of the Shad setup please, my bike came with the Vario top box but haven’t decided on which luggage to go for yet.

I don’t want permanent scaffold on the bike so it limits my options but am thinking the Shad 3P system might work for me.

Pics on and off the bike (if you have the 3P system) would be a great help if you wouldn’t mind👍🏻
Found a few pictures of the 3P pannier mount without panniers. Must admit I can still see me removing mounts when I don’t need the panniers.

Yes despite the genuine bmw luggage problems, the Oem mounting system is great when panniers not on. I have had the bmw top box since November and covered over 2000 miles and it has been faultless, I will have the bike for at least 3 years, so am going to be patient and wait for the bmw panniers as I like the ability to charge an item while travelling and the central locking. I am sure they will sort it soon.
