R1300 Bmw luggage

Yes despite the genuine bmw luggage problems, the Oem mounting system is great when panniers not on. I have had the bmw top box since November and covered over 2000 miles and it has been faultless, I will have the bike for at least 3 years, so am going to be patient and wait for the bmw panniers as I like the ability to charge an item while travelling and the central locking. I am sure they will sort it soon.
I agree, they make the pannier integration very neat. If I didn’t gave a month long trip planned in mid-June, I would have taken their offer of a soft bag solution, and waited it out for the original luggage. I guess like many people though, given plans I couldn’t wait.

I did a week in Europe with the top box and sw motech tank bag, pack light😃 A longer trip planned starting July 1st and hoping for panniers by then, otherwise pack lighter😵‍💫 For a tour with SWMBO on the back then panniers a must 🙏

I too like the fitting system (not sure about the looks)of the varios but we have a 17 day trip trip on 28th June and with my wife as pillion I need as much space as poss ! I only do 1 or 2 trips a year that require panniers so I'll just take the scaffolding on and off each time ,bit of a faff but it is what it is .

Yes I was lucky to get the top box before BMW put a stop to selling it. Now sure if at some point they will want it back to do some fix to it. I am going to see if the dealer will lend me some panniers in July, if they are not allowed to sell, but have them in store out the back, you never know.

My first service is next week, asked if I needed a starter relay, service didn't think so but would check, yes it does but waiting for parts should be in though, let me know if not.
Asked if my panniers will be sorted, bit of a world problem not working via central locking, she said they had had no problems to date, but would take a photo.

Service said they'd had no recalls for luggage.

I'm going to try and not be difficult.

Don't quite follow what or who is taking a photo of what? and why?. :-) .

I have had the panniers on my 1300 for a couple of months now. They did give problems when dirt gets into the sliding tab which fasten the panniers onto the bike. I reported it and they have filled in a warranty claim. Not sure whether it will be 2 x new panniers or a new redesigned locking mechanism block to replace on my existing panniers. I've had no problems with the central locking side of things, only a problem with the mechanical release mechanism from the bike. You can work around it, until the fix is available, by making sure the sliding tabs are cleaned out of dirt\sand\grit before trying to pull the release lever up. Also spray the mechanisms with silicone spray.
If the dealer can be persuaded to lend you some for your trip they should be ok particularly if you leave them fitted to the bike when possible.

I don't think the person I spoke to fully understood my issue, a photo would be sent somewhere for evaluation, the simple reason is they don't work as they should, they'll open with the key and I can hear the lock trying to work, so hopefully a fix.

I have the full bmw vario luggage on my r1300gs and have 9000kms on clock already
No issues what so ever with luggage
Panniers are a bit tight to lock on frames though but nothing to trouble me

Do they open and lock with the key in the pannier lock & turning it. But don't lock \unlock by using the remote button on the key?. Sorry, still trying to understand what might happen to mine. I did turn off the "auto lock \unlock" of panniers with ignition on\off as I found it a nuisance. But it did work ok when it was switch on.

Panniers only can work physically with a key, but cant be opened with key buttons, audible clicks heard inside but doesn't engage. Top box works as it should

Everything has arrived successfully and now we’re happy as we’ve got luggage for our trips away in July and September. We went for the Touratech option for several reasons:
  1. Lack of certainty when the Varios would be available
  2. The reduced volume and sculpted shape of the new Varios will not easily accommodate our luggage needs (this is after being very happy with the old square Varios
  3. I don’t need central locking, USB charger or internal light ….. not needed any of these in 30+ years of touring
  4. I’ve always fancied the Zega panniers 😀
Superb and prompt service from Rugged Roads and they’re the only Tiuratech stockist who include a full set (6) of locks in the pannier/frame set.

Thanks
Tony

Morning, has anyone heard anything new when the new varios will ship? My new bike day was Friday. Traded my 1250Rallye TE. I absolutely love it.

Forget them ,go for an alternative !

I sort of wanted to keep the central locking function and the lighting and the charging. Does aftermarket support it?
Me too, Unless you really have to have panniers for a big trip, better to wait, you already have the very nice discreet bmw mounts, BMW will fix them soon, so unless no option just wait. If like me probably 46 weeks of the year you don’t have panniers on anyway.
