R1300GS / the good the bad & the ugly

The winglets seem really wobbly and fragile compared to previous models, but with the screen they work really well

The aesthetics do leave something to be desired. But they appear extremely functional. Better they are clear than opaque. Their transparency gives far better visibility of the immediate space and ground in front of the bike. Important when offroad, less so when eyeing the horizon and vanishing point. But this is a GS, not an RT, so offroad considerations take precedence.

Perception is that the frontal area is much smaller too. The screen bracket/frame is unfortunate, although effective in its rigidity.

Its funny as I really like the look of it , all of it , it makes the 1250 look somewhat old fashioned now but in a nice way. I was after riding the 13 looking around the showroom and looked at the old bike in a different way.

Cutting springs or compress springs does not affect the siffness or spring rate all it does it increases the force until the springs starts to move...Otherwise there would be only one spring rate and a hydraulic preoload adjuster ! Cutting or compressing adujsts the ride height but softness/stiffness stays the same ! Back to the R1300GS...I still think the old 1250 looks more manly than the new 1300 in in no way old or outdated...The new one does not look bad but more generic...As for moving the goal post and enticing 1250 owners to buy the new one...? BMW should have done MORE...Plus 20 hp , plus 4 liters in the tank and Vmax high speed stability would have made the old 1250 obsolete ! But as it is if you have short legs the low rider suspension on demand is nice and real improvement over the low suspension 1200/1250 but the rest unfortunately is not enough and a even smaller tank is a absolute no go in my book no matter how nice sport screen and tank compartment are.And limked to the front foot brake is even worse...But I repeat myself now...Hope you got that I am Not too impressed...LOL

...and continue to move, which is what a spring does.

I hear you Clifton...But it is funny how some peoples misconceptions are on how stuff works...LOL As for myself I will treat myself to another mexico run on my 2019 1250GS that has the same color as the 2004 R1100S Boxercup coming to think of it and still is so nice with the black cast wheels , HP foot controls and levers , Akra BMW pipe and Tractive suspension...I am actually glad that BMW did not give the GS a proper overhaul with 155 hp and a 24 liter tank otherwise I had to give away a great bike for dirt cheap...So I have to wait another 5 years or give the XR another try since the '24 after 9 long years finally has a flat seat that does does not force you into one position but you can finally move on the bike...! I might treat me to the new BMW Tomtom Navigator though...Checked it out yesterday and it looks like a improvement over the Garmin...

Go on Youtube and watch Bike World drag race in the wet / Heavyweight Adventure Bikes...! You will be surprised how much the old girl still has in her...LOL

What a surprise the bike with the least power was easiest to get off the line in the wet . The GS was still slowest of the four . In the dry the gap would have been much bigger .

But they did say over all the BM was quicker . But how many of do this type of thing , throw a few corners in , a 17 inch front wheel and 200 bhp ................................ :D :D

Arsey you are such a sack of lying sheet as clearly the GS was the quickest of the four up to 100 and the easiest to launch due to the torquey boxer & best traction control…!

Yeah but it’s over 100 where it counts.
You keep telling us that, when you ride flat out in Mexico.Looks like you need a Multi or KTM !!

That why the the GS should have had a 1000 rpm higher rpm ceiling and instead of 145 , 155 hp !

I think the new GS should have two engines, one for each wheel, with a couple of turbochargers too.

400BHP should do it.

Plus a tissue dispenser, to wipe the dribble off your cock.

As also this is a EU-5 1250 GS where the EU-4 from 2019/20 ran considerably stronger ! Like a second faster 0-125 ; 12,5 vs 13,4 sec ! Hope the boys roll a 1300 to the start next summer on the few dry days on the island…LOL And Stick you can still cancel your order and get 201 hp and 17” wheels in form of the M1000XR but your missus will miss the top case to lean against…LOL

Puki you might be on to something…Turbos are bad for bikes because of the lag but a electric Kompressor might be something or even hybrid flywheel if the damn batteries where not so heavy would be something BMW should think about especially for performance versions or heavy bikes like RT or ADV that will soon be all new too…Exciting even if the first one of the all new generation was not that exciting to me…LOL

Seen it in the flesh
It looks like a cheap Chinese import. I haven’t ridden it so perhaps that’s where the magic is but it’s lost the ‘hard ass’ rugged look I like. If this softer look is what it’s all about going forward it opens up other brands I may prefer.

Don’t tell Boxerlust, but 68% of the 1300 is made in China.

That's a good enough reason not to buy one :ROFLMAO:

Rode one today , a pure , nice it was . Went really quick , spun up much faster than the 1250 . Nice at slow and fast speed . Very similar to the 1250 but much more grunt . Lower smaller but still comfortable albeit with a more acute knee bend .It felt stiffer than the 1250 , but more manageable. Easier to move about , much less top heavy . I loved it . Need to try a TB as it’s higher . But with the really good PX offered may just bite the bullet
