R80G/S front wheel

The front wheel on my g/s is not centered in the forks, its about 3 to 4mm towards the left leg.

My question before I remove it is are there bushes either side and are they both the same size?

Hi, follow this link to real oem, parts listed for front wheel, hope it helps..i would have the wheel out and try swapping the bushes as they are specific for each side.

How does the disc fit in the brake caliper ?

I would have thought the disc would rub on the caliper body if it was 3 or 4mm offset ?

If the disc isn’t rubbing, does this mean the rim is not centred to the hub ?

Cheers guys. Will have it out and check. I did think something was slightly amiss as when I got it the disc was not centered in the caliper but not by much. I rectified this with a washer in the caliper. Funny thing is it rides just fine.

I remember this from a long way back, on a few bikes that I worked on LINKY

There was a washer between the calliper and the fork leg, as per the parts diagram they just call it "Ring" 34321242308

Also how close should the disc be to the fork leg?

I’m not at home at the moment, so I can’t take an exact measurement for you.

However, looking at a photo that I took recently, I would say the disc runs very close to the right hand leg.

The floating disc bobbins in particular are v close and I believe there is a corresponding ‘flat’ in the fork slider.

Thank you all for your help, not having the best of days with it as managed to drop it in the garage, g/s is ok but the wifes vespa took the brunt of it. never mind.

Anyway have had the front wheel out, looked on realoem at parts at as far as I can tell it seems I may have an extra bush on the disc side, also looking at stirlinmoz pic his spindle goes in more than mine. Help.... see pics below as it may make my explanation clearer..cheers all again.

One other thought, could the bearings be pressed in enough as there is some movement and I think I can feel a gap inside the hub between the part called pipe and shim?

You know what after all that I think its ok. Gonna get the caliper ring washers to pull that out and see where I go.

All in all a good days work, just need to source a new rear panel for the wifes vespa now...

Just make sure the disc is centred in the calliper

I remembered why this was an issue for me way back when I was working on an 80G/S

I could not get new pads in to the calliper without it binding terribly on one side "Until" my foreman told me about the spacer washers

Well,
Got part ring to go between caliper and forks, beaten me that washer is about 4mm.

So made my own spacer probably around 2mm and centered the disc in caliper. All seems ok.

Dont know if it has the wrong caliper or forks but I can live with that for now..

Think I am OK now.
I did get the part number ring as on Realoem but that was about 5mm, absolutely no way that was going o work, so have put a couple of aluminium washers with about 2mm width which seems to have done the trick, caliper is centered and all seems good.

Cheers for all the help just a shame I trashed the Vespa in the process
