R80TIC Winter Project

Mikey is waiting for a part for the drive and I’m waiting for the plating to be done. This means that I can’t do any real work on the rear of the bike and the plating is holding up the carbs, rear brake, gear shift, fork caps etc. All of these small bits holding up the job, who would have thought it.
I spent days on the internet choosing a horn…..it can’t fit on the front due to the high level exhaust so it’s on the side. The ignition switch is now in the starter motor cover, with the cable run through to the headlight. All of the RH switch gear is fitted and wired.
I have worked through the connections from the Acewell to the wiring harness, so I’m starting on that tomoz, very slowly. I’m just hoping all of the connections will fit in the headlight shell.

Made some progress today thanks to some speedy work by Mikey on the rear drive. Still a fair way to go. Paint is at Dream Machine, hubs are out being laced to some new rims.
The little helper is our granddaughter Nelly, she loves her time in the garage.

Carbs on, battery fitted plus other small jobs. I need the rear brake lever re shaped to fit the footrest. I’ve made the front number board mounting brackets but they need to be bent into shape…so still quite a few jobs to do. Where the carbs connect to the airbox via the black plastic funnels, there doesn’t seem to be enough room for two jubilee clips. I’ve looked at images on the internet and some bikes seem to have one clip….anyone got any info on this please.

I think you may have the rubber sleeve on the wrong end of the black plastic elbow ?

Rubber goes on the carb end with one jubilee clip either side of the rib.

Should look like this..

Some great skills on display on this thread. Well done all.
Looking forward to seeing the bike finished.

More progress, thanks to Mikeyboy for some neat welding on the brake lever.

Colin, slacken them screws that are holing up the number / fly shield, and line up the screws so that Philips slots / heads are at 45º. this would allow any water drip out easier, not least as it will make it look more like you did think what you were doing. They are nearly lined through, but not all of them.

Great job Other wise Colin.
Loving it!!! :thumby:

Blimey and I thought I had OCD 🫣

This is looking seriously good. What colour is it going to be?

I’m pleased to report that the fixings are temporary. I have ordered some truss bolts to use with rubber grommets to give it some flexibility. I’m loving your eye for detail, to be expected in your line of work.

The bike will be alpine white with motorrad stripes on the tank. Side panels are tbc, they may be aluminium number boards, or standard side panels. The front number board will be painted yellow.

The tank just needs to be lacquered so it will be ready when I get back from my holls. The wheels are complete and in the garage. It will be all systems go when I get back.

Arrived back from holls on Tuesday so I’ve been trying to make some progress. Picked up the rear brake lever which has been re plated after the final bit of fine tuning. Collected the tank from Dream Machine, they really are very good. Set up the wedgetail ignition. Fitted the tyres to the lovely new wheels. Then started to put it all together.
