I have fitted the BMW rain panels to my LC (not sure what their official name/description is) as I was somewhat miffed at the amount of road crap that comes up off the backwheel and on to the back of your legs and even onto the seat. They are the plastic panels that act as infill panels between the chassis tubing on the left & right of the bike.
Not cheap (BMW stuff never is!), but do they work? The amount of crap thrown up is reduced, but with no panniers fitted the bike and seat still get crap all over them. With panniers, the combination is much better at keeping you clean.
Is it worth buying and fitting them? On balance, no, I don't think so, as I do not particularly want to always ride with the panniers on.
What is needed is a good hugger/mudguard. And I will get one as soon as they become available.
I have seen the rubber sheet device that someone on this site is fabricating and selling, but it all looks a bit Heath-Robinson and I cannot bring myself to fitting one on the bike. I would rather put up with dirty legs etc until a better solution appears.

Hardly expensive when you've spent over £13k on a new bike
