Random change in feel of rear brake

Can anyone come up with a theory as to why the feel of the rear brake should randomly change. Sometimes it is very good and the braking point works fine. For no reason it is then as if I am having to tip my ankle much further forward to get the same effect. Could it be something to do with the linked brakes? It is quite disconcerting when trying to balance the brake / clutch at slow speed.

Yup,

Its the way the linked brakes are set up,

If you use front then back while front still on, its pumped up about 8 mm higher than if you just use rear, bloody annoying if you ask me.

First of all, as an ex motocrosser, I find it difficult to forget about the rear brake.
With linked brakes, use of the pedal is unneccessary.

On to the whys.

Is it possible you are overusing the rear brake - I.E. riding with foot resting on the pedal a little and thus boiling the brake fluid?

It is also possible that the new style rear hub which is supposed to cure the bearing failures of the previous model is alowing the disk to wobble, and thus "knocking" out the pads causing the problem.
After that - I have no ideas.

It cannot be the fluid boiling as it tends to be from cold as well. Must be the link then. The 8mm seems about what I guess the difference would be. If I apply the front and back and then release the front does the front stay on? This is obviously not ideal for slow speed balance work when I thought the front brake was a recipe for going straight over.
